English: Hyde Park High School (Preparatory School) baseball team, eleven members, wearing uniforms, sitting in three rows outdoors on the field in Chicago, Illinois. Samuel "Sam" Ransom, an African American player, is sitting in the middle of the team. This photonegative taken by a Chicago Daily News photographer may have been published in the newspaper. The Library of Congress and Chicago History Museum post the date of the picture as 1903, however fellow teammate and future writer for the Chicago Tribune, Walter Eckersall, writes in 1918 that the two attended high school together at Hyde Park from 1899 to 1902. So I believe the picture is 1902.
