Accompanying Text: "Bonny, bred by Mr. Leigh, is by Duke Humphrey, out of Bonny, both imported from Jersey by the well-known Mr. Fowler, of Bushey. At the Bedford meeting of the Royal Agricultural Society of England in July, 1874, Bonny, a fawn, then a little over a year and a-half old, took the first prize for heifers not exceeding three years old, beating amongst others Mr. Gilbey's Duchy, the second prize, which, at the Hargrave sale the other day, was purchased by the Duke of Bedford for 255gs. We spoke of Bonny, on seeing her at Bedford, as 'very ladylike, straight, and taking'; while the judges pronounce her to be 'a heifer of great promise, which later, judging by her present form, ought to hold a distinguished position in the cow classes'. Mr. Leigh himself selected Duke Humphrey, a bull which was used successfully on the Luton Hoo herd for about three years.
