Indexes churches, houses of industry, offices of daily newspapers, donors of property to the city, free schools, banks, hotels, and foundries. Border includes nineteen pictures of prominent buildings and views: City of Nashville, Douglass Hall, View on N. Side Public Square, Hick's Block, Nashville University, and Western Military Institute, The Spring Street Baptist Church, Church of the Holy Trinity, Residence of J.B. Hayes, Esq. Near Nashville, Residence of Mrs. J.K. Polk, State Capitol, Residence of John D. Ewing, Esq., Boyd's Addition, The Howard School, Residence of Gen. Barrow, Edgefield, The Church of the Advent, Masonic Hall, Ensley Block, View N. Side Square, Inn Block, and Residence of Col. Acklen Near Nashville. Historical Note Drawn just before the Civil War, the Haydon & Booth map of Nashville is one of the most detailed and informative depictions of the antebellum city (plus the Edgefield community). In addition to a street map, it provides a 2-dimensional rendering of the footprint of each house and structure, block-by-city block. It also names civic and private buildings, landowners, and significant natural features such as streams and springs.
