Summary

Description
English: The Ambalapuzha Sri Krishnaswamy Temple is a Krishna temple located at Ambalappuzha. Most of the current temple is from the 14th to 15th century, though the site is much older (at least 8th century). The complex is historically linked to the Guruvayoor Sree Krishna Temple, another influential Hindu temple in Kerala.

The Ambalappuzha Krishna temple is dedicated to Parthasarathy form of Krishna, the form where as the chariot driver, he discusses the spiritual confusions of Pandava Arjuna of Mahabharata, then teaches the Bhagavad Gita. This temple was the site where major Hindu artworks and statues were preserved from some Kerala temples during the destructive campaign of Tipu Sultan in the 18th-century.

The temple is major complex that includes shrines, Hindu artwork from all major Hindu traditions, murals and a water tank. The most notable of the artwork include those of the ten avatars of Vishnu (Dasavatara). The complex has long been a school for Sanskrit studies and classical Indian dance/music studies. Annual Hindu festivals here attract Indian music and dance performances. Of particular note are the twelve days of Panthrandu Kalabham, Pallippana singing for Krishna/Shiva/Devi, Kathakali, and Onam celebrations.
