Unfinished Painting (Keith Haring painting)

Introduction Unfinished Painting is a 1989 painting by Keith Haring. This painting is best known as one of Haring's final paintings before his 1990 death from AIDS-related complications at the age of 31. The artwork is currently on tour with the "Keith Haring: Art Is for Everybody" exhibit.

Contents Composition Symbolism and Ideology Public Reception References

Composition This painting is a largely blank canvas, except for the upper left corner which is painted in purple. The figures and designs in this corner follow Haring's distinctive pop art style. This design is interrupted by a jagged edge and uncharacteristic drips across the blank canvas below.

Symbolism and Ideology This painting was left purposefully blank to represent the artist's life cut short by AIDS. [1] Much of Haring's work advocated for safe sex and for a greater government response to the AIDS epidemic.

Public Reception Recently this painting has gained additional public notice after Twitter user @DonnelVillager used an AI software to "complete" the painting. [2]
