Draft:The Meadows (Colebrook, Tasmania)

  • Comment: Some of the issues here include bare URLs, a lack of sources, lack of sections, among others. I think having more sources will establish notability more, but until then the subject does not seem to be notable. Losipov (talk) 05:32, 22 July 2023 (UTC)

‘The Meadows’ at Colebrook, Tasmania, is an historic estate currently of 375 acres in the Coal River Valley.[1][2]

‘The Meadows’ is located on the north eastern side of the village of Colebrook, on the junction of Mud Walls and Ryndaston Roads.

Colebrook itself is a quiet little farming settlement which was developed by convict labour as the site of a convict probation station. The town was originally named Jerusalem and later as 'Colebrook Dale’.

The area around Colebrook was first explored by Europeans in early 1804 and by 1806, with serious food shortages in Hobart Town, expeditions of soldiers were being sent into this area to kill kangaroos and emus.

‘The Meadows Estate’ includes a long frontage to Wallaby Rivulet, a permanent water source that hosts trout from Craigbourne Dam. Farming activities at ’The Meadows’ have included sheep and cattle grazing, and hay and lucerne production.

During the 1970s and early 1980s, ‘The Meadows’ also included the site of the Colebrook Golf Course, until a dispute between the golf club and the then owner (Mr Denis Munnings) in 1981 resulted in the cancellation of the lease during the Men’s Championships.

The former Colebrook Golf Clubhouse, which borders ‘The Meadows’ on Mud Walls Road is now under private ownership and until late 2023 operated as the Colebrook Tavern.[3]
