2023 Chrcynno Cessna Grand Caravan crash
On 17 July 2023, a privately owned Cessna 208 aircraft with three people on board crashed into a hangar at an airfield in Chrcynno, Poland.[1] Six people – the plane's pilot and five people who were inside the hangar at that time – were killed and seven others were injured. The crash was the deadliest aviation accident in Poland since 2014, when eleven people died when a Piper PA-31P Navajo crashed near Topolów.[2]

Accident edit
The plane involved in the accident was a Cessna 208 B (SP-WAW) operated by a privately owned company, Skydive Warsaw.[3] It was carrying three people, a flight instructor and two pilots in training, during a training flight.[4] At 19:40 local time (17:40 GMT), the police received a report about a small passenger plane that had crashed into a hangar near the village of Chrcynno, approximately 28 miles northwest of Warsaw.[4]
According to the Polish State Commission on Aircraft Accidents Investigation, which is investigating the accident, the pilot lost control of the aircraft while climbing away after performing a touch-and-go maneuver, and struck a club house in which several people were sheltering due to a storm.[5] As a result of the accident, the pilot of the plane and five people on the ground were killed, while the two trainee pilots that are passengers, survived. In Addition, seven other people were injured.[5]
Investigation edit
According to the preliminary report released by the Polish SCAAI on August 16, 2023, after the instructor pilot took control and increasing the engines power to maximum he as excuted a left turn, smoothly increasing the bank angle. At an angle of about 60 degrees, with a loss of lift, the aircraft began to slide onto its left wing, decreasing altitude. At an angle of approximately 70 degrees, the left wing made contact with the grass surface of the runway, in close proximity to the airfield tower and a playground fence. Moments later, while reducing the bank angle, the aircraft collided with a parked off-road vehicle in front of a metal building, and then with the building itself. At that time, there were people inside the vehicle and the building.[3] Before leaving the cockpit, the trainee pilot shut down the engine by moving the Fuel Condition Lever to the CUT OFF position and pulling the Fuel Shutoff Control cable to cut off fuel supply to the engine.[3]
