The Transition

edit

Before 2017, the 75th school district had 2 other high schools alongside Mission Secondary; there was Heritage Park Secondary School and Hatzic Secondary School. However, in October 2014, it was announced by the Mission School Board that they would make Mission Secondary School the only high school in the area. The change came into effect during the 2017-2018 school year. The change officially dissolved both Heritage Park and Hatzic Secondary School down to middle school status.[2]

Plans To Rebuild Mission Senior Secondary

edit

Announced in March 2023[3], the Mission School Board said that they had got funding and plans to make replace the secondary school building. Later in April 2024, Rachna Singh (BC's education minister) announced the district had received $175 million to replace the current high school starting 2028 and plan to have it completed during the 2029 to 2030 school year.[4] In the article, it states that "Mission Secondary students will remain in the current school until the new building is complete. The current school will be demolished after the replacement is finished."[4]
