The colonization in Europe during the Classical period up until the Middle ages was a process of settlement of uninhabited lands by people of the neighboring regions.

Later activities with similar aims include the Ottoman Empire conquest of European territories (and their gradual transformation into regular provinces) and the Lebensraum policy of Nazi Germany.
