Welcome, and thank you for your attempt to lighten up Wikipedia. However, this is an encyclopedia and articles are intended to be serious, so please don't make joke edits, as you did to Wikipedia:Reference_desk/Humanities. Readers looking for accurate information will not find them amusing. If you'd like to experiment with editing, please use your sandbox instead, where you are given a certain degree of freedom in what you write. Matt Deres (talk) 21:53, 7 January 2021 (UTC)

Ok. Also, "coincidentally", they offered terms after they started reverting my most recent edits but got caught very quickly by a third party. Coincidence, no doubt. MurrayGreshler (talk) 03:58, 7 December 2022 (UTC)

Reverting edits unfairly

I made some edits that were intended to make the tone of an article more neutral and you reverted them and claimed they were vandalism as well as threatening a suspension of my editing permissions, they were not vandalism. Next time please at least look at what was changed before declaring it vandalism. Bean guy2 (talk) 10:35, 7 December 2022 (UTC)

AIV reports

Hi! Thanks for your reports to WP:AIV today. I just wanted to let you know that if a user has only made one edit, or they have received a warning and haven't edited since, they're unlikely to get blocked. We generally only block if there's a clear sign that the user isn't stopping. Edits like those made by Hackinghobbs, for example, could be test edits and the user might go on to make productive contributions. Sam Walton (talk) 10:05, 7 December 2022 (UTC)

CSD U5s

Hello, Someone who's wrong on the internet,

Please do not be so quick to tag User pages as CSD G5 for speedy deletion. Most of your taggings were fine but editors are allowed to have a certain amount of personal information on their User page as long as it is not promotional so I did untag a few that I thought were just fine for a User page. Also, some new editors use their main User page to start drafts so consider moving pages that are obviously drafts to Draft space rather than tagging them for deletion. I noticed most of the editors whose sandboxes you tagged were very new editors so I was glad to see you left a Welcome message for them along with the CSD notice. Thank you for your work! Liz Read! Talk! 08:41, 16 December 2022 (UTC)

I'll slow down a bit with the U5's. Do you have any specific examples of pages that I incorrectly tagged as U5? Someone who's wrong on the internet (talk) 08:45, 16 December 2022 (UTC)

Screaming into the void

I think it's generally better to ignore dumb stuff blocked vandals say in their talk pages, as screaming into the void with no one listening is the opposite of what they want, which is attention. If the talk page messages were similar to the mainspace vandalism I would have reverted and pulled TPA, but what they were doing was about as minimally disruptive as it could be. Missing Detective's Family & Friends

In my earlier post I stated that "Joe Podo" had passed and was away from the scene. This week at only 22 years old Joe passed away. There are still so many unanswered questions. Joe always went by "Joe Podo" and he was only 22 years old. His cousin has shared this:In a short amount of time, my cousin John, (Joe's cousin) has become my rock. I have looked up to him and wanted to be just like him. He made me feel so comfortable around him. I love you John! Hopefully he will give me some answers to these questions. Re username block

First of all, although you and I both have longer than average usernames, ours aren't even half the length of the one in question. The general rule is over 40 characters is pretty much always considered disruptively long. I opted to just block because, on top of the username; the two edits I saw didn't give me much confidence this was someone who was here to build an encyclopedia; brand new editors don't normally screw around with categories and the dates on maintenance tags. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 03:39, 5 March 2023 (UTC)

Who decided on 40? Seems kinda arbitrary to me. Just my 2¢. Someone who's wrong on the internet (talk) 03:49, 5 March 2023 (UTC)
That number came about before my time, but that's what the UAA bot is set up for. If you think that should change (and I have no strong personal opinion on it) you can start a discussion at WT:Username policy, sometimes it just takes one person saying it o it loud to effect change. Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Terrorism in 2021

A tag has been placed on Category:Terrorism in 2021 indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. Liz Read! Shrekishitsugardaddy

Hello, I've noticed that a lot of your AIV reports have been premature. As a general rule, we won't block somebody for their first edit ever, nor when they've been given a warning and haven't edited since. There are, of course, exceptions, as with any rule, but it usually has to be particularly egregious (like hate speech or shameless commercial spam). In this particular case, your G3 tag was inappropriate for a user page that was, at worst, a little bit silly, and there were absolutely no grounds for a block, so I declined your AIV report. Please be more careful in future, and please be mindful when dealing with new editors that they may do things that look strange or silly to us but may not be malicious at all. Thank you, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 12:27, 18 February 2023 (UTC)

Duplication? in list for "DSA" box
(or "{{Ds [...]}}" template instance)

This might have been intentional, but ... if so, that would be news (and a surprise) to me.

The box corresponding to THIS wikitext:

{{Ds/aware|9/11|a-a|a-i|ab|ap|mos|b|blp|cam|cc|cid|covid|e-e|ecig|fg|gc|gap|gmo|horn|ipa|irp|kurd|lr|med|old|pr|ps|r-i|saq|tt}}

opens up only when one clicks on a certain button labeled "[show]" in the mild-mannered [initially] thin pink box -- labeled "Discretionary sanction awareness" -- that [by default] has not been expanded ("yet"). ("until" one clicks on that button labeled "[show]").

But I did try clicking on "[show]", and after that, a larger box appeared ... beginning with
<< "This user is aware of the designation of the following topics as contentious topics:" >>.

Then, it has a list of "contentious topics" that probably should not (at least not unintentionally!) contain any duplicated entries.

But upon reading [at least part of] that list of "contentious topics", I found that it contained both

  • [E1] an entry displayed as "the Balkans or Eastern Europe"
[right after one about 'the English Wikipedia Manual of Style and article titles policy'],
    and
  • [E2] an entry displayed as "Eastern Europe or the Balkans"
[right after one about "COVID-19, broadly construed"].
-- ["!"] --

Now you may feel free to be the one to say, ... whether that was intentional or not. (If not, then it might have been due to any one of several "possible reasons", that ... [let's just say] I probably do not even need to know what the "possible reasons" might be.)

So ... you can decide what -- if anything -- to do, and you are probably under no obligation to declare in advance (nor explain) your decision. ("if any").

However, just for the "correctness" of ... something or other, you might want to ... consider figuring out (perhaps even 'carefully') what -- if anything -- to do.

Bui Quoc Huy: spam?

I'm dropping this message, as I saw that you requested speedy deletion (spam) for the page eo:Bui Quoc Huy in the Esperanto Wikipedia. The point is that in the last weeks, we received multiple such requests and the community of the Esperanto Wikipedia decided to keep the page. I was personally in favour of the deletion as the page was marked as cross-wiki spam, but the majority of the community decided to keep the page (the discussion can be found here, if you manage to understand our language). — Super nabla (talk) 00:56, 31 March 2023 (UTC)

Understanding the finer points of what's wrong on the internet

Although I've been a wikipedia user for a long time, my first attempt at creating a user page was made only recently and was tagged almost immediately, by you, for speedy deletion. I have now created a new one using user boxes and basing myself on the user pages of wikipedia admins.

I am curious as to why you think my original attempt deserved deletion. The only thing I can think of that was wrong with it, after reading various guidelines, was the link to my personal web page, so all I had to be asked was to remove that link, perhaps?

I am also curious as to why it's okay for you to have a link to your personal web site on your user page.Geoffpointer (talk) 02:50, 6 April 2023 (UTC)

“Progressive” party 1912 shading — How should the conflict be resolved?

I have discovered a conflict between the shading for the 1912 Progressive Party in the United States (the one founded by Theodore Roosevelt and known as the “Bull Moose” Party).

In most relevant articles, it is shaded the same as the later 1924 (founded by Bob La Follette) and 1948 (founded by Henry A. Wallace) Progressive Parties. However, in the Political party strength in California (and similar articles for other states) it uses the shading of Bull Moose, different from the Progressive shading.

Also, in the article on the Progressive Party of 1912 it lists a colour of Red, and this is listed as the colour in the template.

This conflict is why I was wanting to change the shading for Roosevelt in 1912 to style="background:#C97979" rather than style="background:#C97979". I feel that there are two choices to resolve the conflict:

  1. change shading and coloration for the 1912 Progressive Party to style="background:#C97979"
  2. merge the shading for “Bull Moose” to the ordinary “Progressive” shading

Speedy deletion nomination of 2b∣¬2b

A tag has been placed on 2b∣¬2b requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a recently created redirect from an implausible typo or misnomer, or other unlikely search term.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Alexandermcnabb (talk) 06:57, 4 April 2023 (UTC)

It looks like a tag has been placed on the page "2b∣¬2b" requesting its speedy deletion from Wikipedia. However, I would like to suggest that the page may have potential to be retained on the site. While it may have been created as a redirect from an implausible typo or misnomer, it is possible that the page could be developed into a useful resource for readers.
I would recommend that the page be given a chance to develop and that editors work to improve it rather than deleting it outright. Perhaps some research could be done to determine if there is any relevant or interesting information that could be added to the page. Thank you for considering this alternative. Warning

Hi there - I think I've warned you multiple times on IRC now about your behaviour towards administrators and functionaries who use that platform. IRC is IRC and not Wikipedia, but when you start displaying similar conduct on-wiki, it needs to be addressed publicly on-wiki. This edit summary is incredibly rude, especially when someone is trying to help. You could have raised it on his talk page. People make mistakes all the time - I recently suppressed revisions but then forgot to remove the content I was intending to suppress until another oversighter pointed it out - I misread the page, and thought it had been removed.

It's human and natural to make mistakes, and even if you have evidence that the mistakes are ongoing, yelling at someone and essentially calling someone incompetent while internet yelling at them is not appropriate (see WP:CIVIL and WP:NPA.) If this problematic behaviour you have shown off-wiki happens again on-wiki, I will block you for disruption. TonyBallioni (talk) 23:41, 21 April 2023 (UTC)

Capitalizing "cite"

Re: this edit

In that article alone, the templates {{pp-move-indef}}, {{start date and age}}, {{coord}}, {{efn}}, {{frac}}, {{convert}}, {{when}}, {{notelist}}, and {{reflist}} are coded without capitalizing the first letter of the template name. Can you explain why {{cite news}} and {{cite web}} need to be capitalized? This requires the use of the Shift key -- a minor point but still greater than any reason for the capitalization. It also may give newer editors the impression that the capitalization is required. ―Mandruss  22:28, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

ReferenceExpander

Just a friendly heads-up in case you weren't already aware, since it's installed on your common.js: Careless use of ReferenceExpander has caused serious problems. It's currently at MFD, and a large cleanup project is underway to repair the citations damaged by the script. I and several other users have !voted that the script be deleted or disabled, and I wouldn't recommend using it at all unless you thoroughly check every reference it modifies against the previous revision. If you're interested in a more detailed explanation of the script's issues, Folly Mox has provided an excellent summary at the MFD. — SamX [talk · contribs] 05:17, 1 June 2023 (UTC)

Tagging pages for CSD G5 speedy deletion

Hello, Someone who's wrong on the internet,

Please do not tag pages for speedy deletion CSD G5 until a page creator is confirmed to be conducing block evasion. You should not tag a page for deletion based only on your suspicions. It raises questions for the admin reviewing your request, for the page creator who isn't blocked (yet) and, most importantly, there is no urgency to delete these pages, especially when they are in Draft space. Just wait until an SPI is processed and if your suspicions prove to be correct, then go ahead. But this isn't a contest or race and your actions in this case just start User talk page discussions that take up other editor's time to respond to. Thank you for your patience. Liz Read! ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:51, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

My bad!

Sorry about that revert at Bari Weiss, and sorry for not getting it when you explained the situation at that other user's talk. Thank you for reverting me. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 23:08, 8 December 2023 (UTC)

I just want to acknowledge your username and the surprise I felt when I saw an edit summary that said, Reverted edit by [Username] (talk) to last version by Someone who's wrong on the internet. I... why would you... that's not a thing... oh! That certainly threw me for a loop, and I tip my hat at your successful tomfoolery. — Fourthords | =Λ= | 17:48, 8 January 2024 (UTC)

UAA

Thanks for the report at WP:UAA but please note that some wikis allow organisation accounts - see Commons policy for an example, the German wiki is another. Please don't report users at WP:UAA if they haven't edited or triggered an AbuseFilter on this wiki. Nobody (talk) 06:20, 18 January 2024 (UTC)

A possible sockpuppet

I have declined your speedy deletion nomination of User:Poggersyaaaatechnical1283/Wdefcon as being created by the blocked editor BizDolphin, because I can't see any evidence that BizDolphin & Poggersyaaaatechnical1283 are the same person. However, if you do have strong evidence that they are, then please feel welcome to let me know what that evidence is, and I'll consider it. JBW (talk) 22:04, 18 January 2024 (UTC)

User talk:I hate encyclopedias

Hey there. Could you be more careful about which users you welcome? When someone's first edit is to restore vandalism and attack another user, that's a good sign you should be reporting them, not welcoming them. Thanks. — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 21:53, 21 January 2024 (UTC)

The welcome was BEFORE the vandalism, not after! Someone who's wrong on the internet (talk) 21:54, 21 January 2024 (UTC)

My inevitable block is unlikely to make much difference

Hi, i thought this may have been BBB because BBB often challenges users to block them. Anyways, this user whether or not is BBB has been blocked indefinitely 𝑭𝒊𝒍𝒎𝒔𝒔𝒔𝒔𝒔𝒔𝒔𝒔𝒔𝒔𝒔𝒔 (talk) 02:10, 10 February 2024 (UTC)

Rollback granted

Hi Someone who's wrong on the internet. After reviewing your request, I have enabled rollback on your account. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:

  • Being granted rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle or Ultraviolet. It just adds a [Rollback] button next to a page's latest live revision - that's all. It does not grant you any additional "status" on Wikipedia, nor does it change how Wikipedia policies apply to you.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear and unambiguous cases of vandalism only. Never use rollback to revert good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war, and it should never be used in a content-related dispute to restore the page to your preferred revision. If rollback is abused or used for this purpose or any other inappropriate purpose, the rights will be revoked.
  • Use common sense. If you're not sure about something, ask!

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 06:35, 11 February 2024 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Chrystul Kizer Mugshot.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Chrystul Kizer Mugshot.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:09, 11 February 2024 (UTC)

Reversions

As a heads up, I think User:Pp0592 appears to be reverting IP vandalism, and looks like then your revert of that editor here (and elsewhere) was in error, although it's unclear why the IP then reverted you to bring the changes back to their original format? Kinda strange, but at the very least doesn't look like the edits from Pp0592 appear to be clear vandalism. Best, SpencerT•C 07:30, 7 March 2024 (UTC)

Page moves

Hello, Someone who's wrong on the internet,

Please be careful when you move a User page to Draft space, not to move the User talk page at the same time as what happened with User talk:Sebastian Macmillan. User talk pages sould not be deleted or moved from User space. Just make sure you uncheck the box that says to include the Talk page in the page move. Thank you. Liz Read!
