The Umred Kharangla Wildlife Sanctuary is a proposed protected area in Nagpur District of Maharashtra state, India.

The sanctuary proposal was prepared by G.R. Gajbhiye, Chief Conservator of forests (CCF), Nagpur Territorial Circle On December 29, 2011, the proposal was forwarded to A.K. Saxena, additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (APCCF) for wildlife, East. This may be the first proposal for any sanctuary in India, which has been prepared in a month. Saxena told the TOI "I've just received the proposal. It will be sent to the state government after final discussions,".
The sanctuary proposal is being promoted by Rajendra Mulak, Minister of state for Finance, Energy, Water resources, Excise and Planning. Mulak said there is a huge scope for tiger and ecotourism in Vidarbha. There are around 15 tigers in the Kuhi-Bhiwapur-Paoni patch.
"We need to protect tigers that are facing extinction. U-K sanctuary is a good option. Given a proper shape, tigers will bring jobs for the locals in the form of tourism and allied activities and boost the local economy," Mulak said.[1]

The sanctuary area is home to resident breeding Tigers, herds of Gaur, Dholes and also rare animals like Flying squirrels, Indian Pangolins and Honey badger.
The Umred-based NGO Wildlife Conservation and Development Centre (WLCDC), working for tiger conservation in Bhiwapur, stated they had first sighted the radio collared Tass tigress near Kharangla with its mother in April 2009. It was around five months old then. Members of the NGO feel Karhandla-Bhiwapur seems to have a source population from where tigers move into Tadoba landscape, thus making this area a tiger source and an important wildlife corridor.[2]
The tigress was rescued on October 13, 2011 from an open drainage well adjoining Tass forest in Bhiwapur range. It was believed that the tigress was a resident of Ranmangli and after veterinary treatment and healing was released there on November 27. However, by February 2, 2012 she seemed to be heading back towards her home territory in the Bhiwapur area.[3]

Approximate area of the proposed sanctuary is 250 km2 (97 sq mi). It is bounded roughly by the Wainganga River and the Gosikhurd Dam on the northeast,Major State Highway 9 (Maharashtra) and Biwapur Town on the south, Umred City on the west and a narrow 10 km (6.2 mi) long range of 600 m (2,000 ft) - 800 m (2,600 ft) high hills to the northwest. Elevation of the sanctuary is mostly around 260 m (850 ft) except for the hills in the northwest and some 360 m (1,180 ft) hills in the east.

December 2010. |accessdate=2010-07-01 in umred karandla sanctuary most part of the forest lies in the bhiwapur taluka which provide ample opportunities to the tourist nearby .ranela talaw which is barely 3 km from bhiwapur is the great tiger sight seeing for the visitor. though no human tiger conflict is recorded in this area still it is a place which is truly remarkable for the tiger sighting due the abundance availability of water in talaw. it has been the tourist place for the centuries as the forest goddesses reside in serene atmosphere of the talaw. it has been great rendezvous for the people who are either living in vicinity or nearby place.
Nearby protected areas edit
It is located 40 km (25 mi) north of Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve and 50 km (31 mi) southwest of Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary. Pench Tiger Reserve is 80 km (50 mi) to the northwest.
