I apologize again for any community norms I may have violated in an attempt to administer my survey. I would like to continue administering it, because it is directly related to the work of the Wikipedia community. I have already received a number of responses (about 15) which are generally very positive and insightful.
Because I am only seeking the feedback from a small number of specific individuals (the top 5% of editors on the VT massacre article, approximately 85 users), posting requests to users talk pages is the only reliable way to solicit feedback.
Nevertheless, I also want my work to be perceived favorably by the community. I have taken seriously the comments and suggestions offered by Dena and Hoary, and seek any additional feedback before I continue with my work.
I have made the following changes to my procedures:
- The survey is included as a as a subpage on my user page user:geraldckane/survey, instead of directly on the post
- A description of myself and my research is now on my userpage, to help provide insight.
- I have reduced the actual posting to a small template user:geraldckane/template, to minimize "real estate" on the user's talk page.
- I explicitly indicate that this will be the only attempt to contact them, and those uninterested should simply delete the message with my apologies.
My goal is to give people the opportunity to reply if they would like (many have done do enthusiastically), but not be intrusive to those who are not interested. I welcome your continued feedback.

- Looks good to me. You might want to have a more informative edit summary than the one you used last time "Wikipedia Questions" because cutting and pasting, and making a lot of edits in a row, are going to raise some people's red flags.
