Merge With Draft

Rename to 2024 Southern Derecho?

2024 Houston derecho → May 16 Houston derecho – Another derecho is happening today which is about to hit Houston (as of writing this) after it just hit Dallas. Cobblebricks (talk) 18:32, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
- Before I support or oppose, what is your source for today being classified a derecho? A quick google search for "Houston derecho" doesn't turn up anything today, with two news articles yesterday about the one on May 16. My current stance is "Oppose" until a source is found. Once source is found, then maybe "Support", but I would reassess at that time. The Weather Event Writer (Talk Page) 18:57, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
- Switching stands to strong oppose — Even the National Weather Service office in Houston didn’t mention it as a “derecho” in their latest press release. They called them “severe storms”. For me to reconsider, I need to see at least 3 news articles or a statement from the National Weather Service saying May 28 was a “derecho”. - I can't find any sources that have May 28th as a derecho; NWS Houston / Galveston refers to them as severe storms. GeorgeMemulous (talk) 18:39, 29 May 2024 (UTC)

- Strong oppose per all above; not a derecho. Also, WP:CRYSTAL, this was suggested before the system even hit Houston.
