Subcontinent or Bareazam is right pronouncing:-edit
Latest comment: 4 months ago4 comments4 people in discussion
Before the freedom of all countries in subcontinent or Bareazam or before it's division it is called "Bareazam". And it also a right word describe " subcontinent" . The word Indian subcontinent is totally wrong because it's name was " Bareazam" and is also called " subcontinent" to refer all countries when in it before division. Indian subcontinent name is totally wrong because it refers only one country India. It should be " subcontinent " because we're part of it too. 39.41.201.56 (talk) 16:27, 14 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
"Indian subcontinent" is a widely sourced term. And is also the common name of the land mass. There is no point changing it. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:50, 14 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
"We" who? This is the English page for a subcontinent. The word in your language is totally irrelevant. JM (talk) 23:55, 3 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
It's important to acknowledge that 'Indian subcontinent' is a widely recognized term with historical and geographical significance. While 'Bareazam' might be another name, 'Indian subcontinent' is the commonly accepted term in English to describe this region. Changing it would only create confusion. 207.96.13.213 (talk) 19:01, 23 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

I asked ChatGPT why is the "Indian subcontinent" not capitalized, this is the answer I got:
"The term "Indian subcontinent" is a proper noun and should be capitalized. It refers to the southern region of Asia, which includes countries such as India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka. It is important to use proper capitalization when referring to specific geographic regions or proper nouns."
Whoever invented this term initially obviously made a grammatical error. Why don't we correct it? 120.16.38.160 (talk) 01:46, 6 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
As often happens, ChatGPT gave you a crap response. "Indian subcontinent" is an informal term without a complete consensus as to its precise limits or definition, and as such is not customarily capitalized. --Orange Mike | Talk 01:59, 6 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
ChatGPT's responses don't give you correct answers, only those that sound like they are correct. "Indian subcontinent" is the correct term to use much like you wouldn't capitalist the letter 'M' in "Indian man" Infernomoonsault (talk) 21:20, 25 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Indus defining much of the ecosystem of the Indian subcontinent is a dubious claim at bestedit

Indus is a river that runs on the periphery of the continent, I don't see how it can be said that the river defines the ecosystem on the subcontinent, instead representing a small portion of the varied ecosystems present across it Infernomoonsault (talk) 21:24, 25 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Seems sensible. Changed the caption to "The Indus is a major river of the north-west of the Indian subcontinent" - bland, but there we are. Johnbod (talk) 23:43, 25 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Johnbod: How about keeping the original caption and adding northwestern in between, something like - "The Indus defines much of the ecosystem of the north-western part of the Indian subcontinent." ? - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 10:59, 26 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
I don't know if even that is true. Is it? Johnbod (talk) 13:39, 26 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Btw, the caption to the same photo at Indus River is "Confluence of Indus and Zanskar rivers. The Indus is at the left of the picture, flowing left-to-right; the Zanskar, carrying more water, comes in from the top of the picture". So the Zanskar is actually the main river shown. @Johnbod: What if we write exactly what's written in the image description. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 18:51, 26 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
