Strong Oppose. Inconfidência is by far the WP:COMMONNAME for the event, as is clear in an English-language Ngram search and searching in English on Google Scholar: 682 for Inconfidência vs. 61 for Minas Gerais Conspiracy, 31 for Conspiracy of Minas, and 122 for Minas Conspiracy. It should be noted that many of the latter three options were found as parentheticals to Inconfidência Mineira. —Carter (Tcr25) (talk) 21:42, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

@Tcr25, yes, but should this rule really be applied here? You're comparing English terms with non-English ones. I suppose the English Wikipedia should give priority to English terms in this case. It's just weird to have a random name in Portuguese like that, it feels out of place. Torimem (talk) 22:09, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

No, because it's the name the event is commonly referred to in English. It may look like a "random name in Portuguese" in isolation, but if you are looking in English scholarships for information about the Inconfidência, then that's the name you would use to find the majority of WP:RS sources. —Carter (Tcr25) (talk) 23:02, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

@Tcr25, many of the results shown in English on the Google Schoolar search are actually abstracts of Portuguese papers. Torimem (talk) 23:06, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

In a quick spot check, that seems to be about two (on average) per page of returns, so even if a quarter of the results are Portuguese-language articles, it's still much more common than a translated version. —Carter (Tcr25) (talk) 23:11, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
