File:Montana state capitol 2.jpg to appear as POTD soon

edit

Hello! This is a note to let the editors of this article know that File:Montana state capitol 2.jpg will be appearing as picture of the day on June 24, 2010. You can view and edit the POTD blurb at Template:POTD/2010-06-24. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page so Wikipedia doesn't look bad. :) Thanks! howcheng {chat} 22:29, 21 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Architect George R. Mann's design for the Arkansas State Capitol, located in Little Rock, Arkansas, United States. The image is labeled as the Montana State Capitol because it was the winning entrant in the first design competition for that building. It was never actually built, and Mann resubmitted it for the Arkansas building.Restoration: Jake Wartenberg

The Scale-Model Myth

edit

It is an often repeated myth that the Arkansas State Capitol is a scale model of the U.S. Capitol because they both feature prominent monumental domes. A side-by-side photographic comparison will show that the Arkansas dome is neo-classical revival in style, has a much more conical shape, has fewer tiers and is significantly less ornate than the U.S. Capitol.
