Mascots section revisited

I'm convinced this doesn't need to be in the article. I had tagged it as {{trivia}}, but even with the excellent choice of removing names of schools that don't have Wikipedia articles, I still think the list is inappropriate. I would like to know why it's necessary to have such a list in this particular article, while articles about say, Wolves, Bears, Bulldogs, Tigers, etc., don't. Is it because the mascot is a human instead of an animal? And though it's certainly not a reason to not include it, is should be noted that such lists just attract more entries from every student at such a school, making maintenance more difficult. A one-sentence mention that several schools have such a mascot, with a couple examples, would suffice, but again there is a problem of people adding their school. (Perhaps why this list came about in the first place--I didn't check the page history.) But if a couple of the most notable examples were added, those who maintain this page could keep an eye on additions, perhaps adding an editing note. Thoughts? School mascots

The lumberjack is the mascot of many schools and universities including:

• Colleges and universities
  • Humboldt State University in Arcata, California
  • Minot State University-Bottineau in Bottineau, North Dakota
  • Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona
  • Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas

• High schools
  • Lin-Wood Public School in the Lincoln/Woodstock Co-op, New Hampshire
  • North Tonawanda High School in North Tonawanda, New York
  • Oakwood High School in Oakwood, Montgomery County, Ohio
  • Patterson High School in Patterson, Louisiana
  • R. A. Long High School in Longview, Washington
  • Richwood High School in Richwood, West Virginia
  • Shelton High School in Shelton, Washington
  • St. Maries High School in St. Maries, Idaho
  • Wausau East High School in Wausau, Wisconsin

The article is weaker without this information. If you went to one of these schools then you too are a "lumberjack". That the "wolves" or "bears" or whatever don't get the same treatment is an issue with those articles. Just my opinion, but stripping this list hasn't improved the writing one bit. The "Statue of a stereotypical lumberjack in Portland, Oregon." is, in fact Paul Bunyan. I don't know that it is not also a stereotypical lumberjack, but he is very tall to be typical. Kenton is the Portland neighborhood in question: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenton,_Portland,_Oregon

Sexual culture

Similar to a plummer, cowboy, or soldier, lumberjacks are popular fantasy objects of sexual (hetero and homo) culture. Shouls this be included? --Willthacheerleader18 (talk) 00:19, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

Nothing should be added to Wikipedia unless it can be adequately sourced using reliable sources. If you think this is relevant and important, feel free to begin the search for sources. Choice of the image for the lead

Half-year ago I replaced the image because felt that commons:File:Logging oregon.jpg is a fake (see annotations). Recently my arguments were proven void. I do not think the current image, File:Bundesarchiv Bild 183-2005-0706-524, Mark Brandenburg, Holzfäller bei der Arbeit.jpg, is worse in any way, but if one thinks that the image from Oregon is better for English Wikipedia, then feel free to put it back, moving Germans to some less prominent spot (or versa). Lumbersexual redirect

Lubersexual redirects here. I don't think this is the same thing as a lumberjack. Lubersexual usually referrers to a US Pacific Nortwestern urbanite that melds a lumberjack and emo aesthetic (red flanel and ginormous bushy beards with Shawshank Redemption prison warden-style glassess). 139.138.6.121 (talk) 19:38, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
