Hi, i have been creating little articles on Patricia McKissack's books over the last couple of months, so i was saddened to see that she recently died. She was an amazing African American author, having written (some with her husband, Fredrick McKissack (also deceased), another creative force) over 100 picture books, novels, and non-fiction books. i'm still adding other books but with the redlinked books in her wp bio have been unable to find enough (3+) sources to comfortably avoid afd, if anybody can assist with them that would be great, thanks. ps. i am also leaving this message with child lit project. Women children's writers
Hi Ser Amantio di Nicolao - If you have time/inclination, would you please create two more categories - Category:American women children's writers and Category:British women children's writers - and use AWB to populate them with the appropriate articles which are currently in Category:Women children's writers so that this cat decreases in size from >1,000 articles? Quick analysis of historical content coverage about women writers
Hey folks! Rosiestep asked me to replicate an analysis I did for WikiProject Women scientists that explored the history content coverage gaps for this WikiProject. I've finally got the figures uploaded to commons and so I'd like to share them here:
My general impressions are as follows:
- There used to be a gap between the coverage across Wikipedia and coverage of women writers
- That gap has closed and turned into a surplus (woot!) There seems to be an inflection point around the end of 2010/beginning of 2011.
- The primary changes responsible for closing that gap is the production of Start and C-class articles bout women writers -- however it looks like the proportion of FA-class articles continues to lag behind the rest of the wiki. This was something we saw with WikiProject Women scientists too.
Keilana told me that she thinks the reason that FA's seem to lag behind the rest of the wiki is because of historical inequalities with regards to coverage of women in cite-able documents.

Cento vergilianus de laudibus Christi FAN
A month or so ago, I nominated the Latin poem Cento vergilianus de laudibus Christi at FAN. The work is unique and pertinent to this project for a number of reasons, namely that it might be the first Christian poem written by a women, as well as the the first work by a women to have been printed and disseminated via the printing press. Seeking reviewers for Natacha Rambova article
Hello all, I've recently done significant work on the Natacha Rambova article, and I frankly feel it is at Featured article status at this point. I am trying to get it there so that it can potentially make it to "Featured article of the day" for January 19 (her birthdate). It is currently unranked, but I have nominated it for GA status and would love it if anyone would be interested in doing a review. I think the lead is far too long. Its first paragraph would do fine. A lead is simply there to summarize a page attractively, so that people can decide quickly if they're in the right place. The remaining information in pars 2, 3 and 4 would be better incorporated into the main text, where it could be referenced and integrated with the later information. Interesting subject, certainly. New cat for Women hymnwriters
Hi Ser Amantio di Nicolao. When you have some free time, and no rush, can you please create Category:Women hymnwriters which would be a non-diffusing cat of Category:Hymn writers? The motivation is that while I've been preparing to start improving the article on Anne Steele, I noticed in its See Also section that someone added "English women hymn-writers (18th to 19th-century)" and wls to several biogs. This led me to goggle "women hymn writers" and I found that there are quite a few books and scholarly articles on this subject, so it makes sense to have the cat. - Two points: one, another source, if you're interested, is the book The Masters of the Sacred Harp - I've used it to create two biographical articles in the past. Quite a few more women than I realized were involved in the movement. (Check it out if you're not familiar - it's really quite fascinating music.)

Reevaluating a Wiki
Hi,
I'm working on the Emilia Lanier Wiki page for a final project in a college level course. Consequently, I have become a huge fan of Emilia Lanier, and I want to make her Wiki the best it can be. I was wondering how and when I could have this group reevaluate it's rating. It's currently a C-Class, and I would really like to bring it up to an A or B-Class.

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject
The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.
Portals are being redesigned.
The new design features are being applied to existing portals.
At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.
The discussion about this can be found here.
Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.
Background
On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.
Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.
So far, 84 editors have joined.

Help with Works updates for Wednesday Martin
Hi all! I've recently posted a request for author Wednesday Martin, seeking to update the Works section for her article. She is best known for her book Primates of Park Avenue but has also published other works around parenting and female sexuality, including some newer ones that have not yet been added to the article. I'm wondering if editors here might have a few minutes to look over my suggestions for the section? In all, I'm suggesting:
- Adding a full list of works to the section (replacing the existing incomplete summary paragraph at the start of the section)
- Adding mention of the TV adaptation in the works for Primates… and the different language versions of the book
- Adding a sentence on her latest book, Untrue
- Adjusting wording regarding other contributions to make it more evergreen and less in need of updating regularly to add other publications she has contributed to

- Looks like someone got to it already! I'm looking at the article right now. I would suggest actually retooling the format a bit to match other writing bios. Here is how I would outline if I were starting this article:
- Contents
- Early Life and Education
- Career (I would move her works down into its own section and list the highlights of her career here. And maybe move reception comments into this section as a work is mentioned)
- Works (I would list her articles and books further down here)
- Reception
- Personal life
- You can see an example in Ida Tarbell which I'm working on taking up to GA status. Another example is Gail Sheehy although I would probably take the Selected article section out.

Hi WikiProject Women Writers, Can anyone help me learn how Katie Koestner of TIME Magazine's Cover Story for June 3, 1991 can become listed as a Wikipedia entry? Katie Koestner was the first woman in history to speak out nationally and publicly in the US about "date" rape as opposed to "stranger" rape. Katie appeared on the cover of TIME Magazine on June 3, 1991. HBO and Lifetime made movies about her and she appeared on over 100 TV and Media programs. This needs stating more carefully. What we call date rape today has been occurring for several thousand years. Koestner pointed out the extent of the problem and possibly coined the term "date rape". Rape within marriage is also a recurrent problem, whether between the married couple or in the form of incest. I would say this all belongs under the existing page Types of rape, which lists and describes many kinds in separate sections. Data on Wikipedia needs to have been published. "Superlatives" such as "first in history" needed to be used cautiously. Some statistical data and correlations are needed too, and ample references to sociological research and newspaper articles dealing with the matter, which I imagine Koestner has. Imbaraka bint al-Bura'
I started drafting an article for Imbaraka bint al-Bura', whom I found in the missing articles list. She's a Mauritanian poet and writer. However, the only information I can find for her is an entry and some commentary in Arab Women Writers. None of her titles yield even a single Google hit, in English or (romanized) Arabic. Margaret Paston
I have just realised that Wikipedia does not have an article about Margaret Paston. Typing her name into the search box, it seems that there is an article - but it is a redirect to the Paston Letters article, where there is very little about Margaret. Books, chapters and articles have been written about her, her letters, her literacy (lack of), her piety, etc, so there is no question in my mind as to whether she is a notable subject. Others mentioned in the Paston letters article who have their own articles are: William Paston (1378–1444); John Paston, Margaret's husband; Sir John Paston, Margaret's son; Robert Paston, 1st Earl of Yarmouth; William Paston, 2nd Earl of Yarmouth; as well as antiquary Francis Blomefield, antiquary Thomas Martin of Palgrave, antiquary Sir John Fenn (who "is best remembered for collecting, editing, and publishing the Paston Letters"!), lawyer & historian Herman Merivale, historian James Gairdner, professor of English language and literature Norman Davis - etc. Obviously, some of them are notable for other things, but I am horrified that Margaret Paston has not been thought to merit an article herself - or so it appears (I looked through the history of the article, and could not see any evidence that there had been such an article which had been merged with the Paston letters article). Some of you may know more about why this is - I have only recently started editing and creating on Wikipedia. I thought I would mention it here, as perhaps someone more knowledgeable would be able to write about her. Hi, I came across this draft on a Victorian children's author while reviewing the AfC queue. It's unclear to me if the subject is notable, while the editor who created it appears to be new and inexperienced. The draft has already been declined once. Katharine Brush
I noticed that the original entry for novelist Katharine Brush was marked as "needing improvement"; it had few citations, and not enough information about why she was important. So I went in and updated, re-wrote, added verifiable citations, etc. Please let me know if it is now a good quality article. The last couple of months, I've been going through women writer biographies and updating the talkpage template for WPWW where it's been warranted. I've been relying on the ORES tool as a guide regarding "Class" update, but using my judgment, too. Regarding "Importance", for those women who have won a literary award and are currently showing "inherit" or "low", I'm upgrading to "mid". There are thousands of women writer biographies, so you are certainly welcome to join in the re-assessment campaign if you have the time and inclination. Women writers articles by quality and importance table
Does anyone know how the "Women writers articles by quality and importance" table gets updated? It seems to be stuck on 32,595 articles for quite some time; and the JL-Bot appears to only update recognized content, e.g. # of Featured Articles, etc. FYI, I asked the same question on Isarra's talkpage as she's with WikiProject X. --Rosiestep (talk) 22:39, 31 December 2018 (UTC)
- Update: Here is a link to the table which is transcluded to our mainpage. The problem (the table isn't updating) isn't with JL-Bot; the problem is with WP 1.0 bot. Would someone from this WikiProject take a look at Giulia Melucci and see if there's anything worth keeping? The article came up as part of a discussion at WP:THQ#Melucci (see the misplaced response at WP:THQ#Page deleted), and apparently as a result of those comment Jack Melucci, the editor asking the Teahouse question, decided to remove content from the article. Samanta Schweblin being low importance is a crime
Possibly biased opinion here considering I've read all of Samanta Schweblin's work that has been translated into English so far and loved it all. However, she is an acclaimed author, and both her novel Fever Dream and her short story collection Mouthful of Birds received rave reviews. She was included in Granta Magazine's best Spanish Writers Under 35 list seven years BEFORE her novel Fever Dream was nominated for the Man Booker Prize, and Mouthful of Birds was nominated for the Man Booker International Prize two years later.
I believe her being labelled a low priority for the Women Writers Wiki project is a glaring oversight. ANDROMITUS (talk) 17:08, 7 August 2019 (UTC)

5 year anniversary of WikiProject Women writers

Today is the 5 year anniversary of WikiProject Women Writers, which focuses on women writers (broadly construed) and their works. It was established in Washington D.C. during m:Wikimedia District of Columbia's Train-The-Trainer Bootcamp. It would not have happened if Keilana hadn't provided the strong encouragement to go for it. "Just do it," she said. So here we are now. Hey folks! I've been working with the Wikimedia Search team to get topic predictions from mw:ORES into the search feature on Wikipedia. And I just realized that there was something really cool that you can do with it that y'all might be interested in. If you type "articletopic:women articletopic:literature" into the search box, it will return you a list of articles that my topic model thinks are about women writers and women's writing. You can further sort this list by article creation date and *boom*, you have a list of new articles about women writers that can be tagged, sorted, and supported by this WikiProject. check it out. I'm excited about this because I think y'all are the right people to review these articles and support the (often new) contributors who are working on them. What do you think? Flip the List
Hi all.
Earlier today I became aware of #FlipTheList, a group of environmental history scholars who want to address the bias towards white, male authors in the list of environmental books article. They were crowdsourcing a list of books to add, emphasizing people of color, people from the global south, and people who identify as women, trans, and non-binary. They had a day-long collaboration and now have a spreadsheet with ~800 books. Their list seems solid and I think most of the entries would meet WP:NBOOK, but I told them that the criteria for inclusion on that particular list seemed to be only for books that already had articles. They'd love to know if that was not the case.
I'm fairly sure creating articles for all of the books is more than they signed up for, but they are going to discuss their next steps soon. In the meantime, I've started creating entries on Wikidata for some of the books. My question is: Is there any interest on this project or elsewhere in helping them out? - Just a thought I had looking at it - I understand why you did it, but putting the WorldCat holdings right under each of her books seems a bit like advertising. You can provide access to that info and be a little more subtle by tagging the OCLC number of the book with the {{OCLC}} template. People can click that and see the holdings for themselves directly without having to dig into the footnotes. draft article for Flynn Coleman
Hello WikiProject Women writers,
I'm Eruditess, I'm a semi new editor who recently decided to take the plunge and try my hand at article creation.
My first attempt is an article about Flynn Coleman; the reviewer was vague, but it seems my submission was declined due to the poor job I did documenting her notability.
In addition to writing "The Human Algorithm", a book discussing ethically designed AI; she is an American Activist, Entrepreneur, International Human Rights Lawyer, Professor, Social Innovator, and Public Speaker. She has lived in a dozen countries, won several awards, earned two Law Degrees, has worked with the United Nations on Human Rights, is a TED Talk Speaker, and is the Founder and CEO for Malena, a company that globally promotes third world female artisans.
Can someone review the link to my draft and give me some pointers on what I am missing or need to enhance/improve?

Reliable sources for a plot detail
This talk page doesn't seem to receive much discussion for an author's individual books, but I figured posting here would make more sense than posting on Talk:Curtain (novel) which might not be watched by too many editors. This book refers to a few other novels in the same series, but without many identifying details, and the article clarifies which novels are being referred to (Death on the Nile and so on). There's one reference in the book to a character named "Evelyn Carlisle" in the book, which the page doesn't yet clarify, but which seems very likely to be Elinor Carlisle from Sad Cypress. Does anyone have ideas as to how I can find the right kinds of reliable sources to include this in the article, or if I can just go ahead and post my conjecture? - Airbornemihir, This is an unusual place to talk about the novel Curtain, but here I am, sent from the Talk page of that novel. There are 38 watchers for the article, by the way, per the Page statistics. Sad Cypress was probably written not that long before Curtain, featuring Elinor Carlisle, though published in 1940, long before Curtain was published. Can you elaborate the situation for mentioning a character with a different first name in Curtain? It has been a while since I read Curtain, and the name does not come to mind. The other allusions are written without reliable outside sources, included in the way the Plot summary is written, as far as I know. Some may be mentioned in reviews or other sources about Christie's novels, but no editor has included those as inline citations in this or other articles on writings by Agatha Christie, that I recall. The allusions need to be fairly obvious from the text, so that if one reads the book, it is pretty clear that Poirot is mentioning events recorded in another novel; not all references that Poirot makes are to cases in one of the novels or short stories. If you could be more specific as to why you think a reference to a character whose name does not quite match the name of Elinor Carlisle, is really a reference to her, that would be helpful. --Prairieplant (talk) 10:01, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Prairieplant, thanks for following the link from my please see message. My reasoning for filling in the reference based on my conjecture was pretty much that readers should be able to get this kind of extra-textual knowledge off Wikipedia if they're interested, but if there isn't much of a clear consensus for linking to Sad Cypress, I can leave it alone. Two things, though: I found this character's name by searching through Wikipedia's plot summaries for Poirot novels, and I figured this might be the right character since Agatha Christie does sometimes make changes to characters' first names, such as Joyce Lempriere from the Thirteen Problems who was referred to as Joan in later novels. - @Prairieplant: When Hercule and Arthur are discussing the possible motives of X being involved in 5 murders in their first conversation about X, Arthur asks, "There is, you are quite sure, no farfetched financial motive - nothing, for instance, like you found in the case of Evelyn Carlisle?". You can double-check this by searching Google Books, although I'm not sure how to link to the results of my search. Are you leaning towards including this as an allusion? I stumbled across this article about author Mary Ruth Kuczkir (pen name Fern Michaels), and the article basically seems like it needs to be rewritten from the ground up. The lead seems adequate, but the broader article has a litany of issues. The bulk of the article's prose is just exhaustively listing her works; the cited sources are woefully inadequate for a BLP; the biography feels like it was written by a fan of the author (this could also be, however, because it's exclusively sourced from what is now a 404 page on the subject's own website); and the last paragraph of said biography goes on a bizarre, ostensibly irrelevant tangent about the subject's delusional experience with an alleged ghost. I'm not going to mince words: the long and the short of it is that the article could be blanked and replaced with a hyperlink to fernmichaels.com (the only source cited in the article), and readers would get about as much out of it as what we currently have.
At the moment, I'm working on mid-century Minnesota politics (riveting stuff, I know), I have no background in literature, and I just have no passion to put the level of work in that this article needs. I posted this here to at least give the article a chance and see if anyone knowledgeable and passionate enough could give it the care it's deserved for the 14 years it's been around.
These four recent sources might get you started, or they might not.

Women memoirists
I created some geographical subcats for Category:Women memoirists. It's very painstaking to review all of the articles in Category:Women memoirists by hand and recategorize the appropriate ones into the country subcat. Ergo... Ser Amantio di Nicolao, if and when you have time and inclination, would you please take a poke at this with the AWB tool? I'd be appreciative. Also, I found that at least a couple of the biographies that I reviewed when I started this subcat process did not have the WPWW talkpage template, so if it could be added where missing, that would be great. Would someone from this WikiProject mind taking a look at Kokumo and perhaps try helping out MommaBaker60 or KOKUMOTheQueenOfQueerSoul (they appear to be the same person)? Seems to be a rather unremarkable scientist where the wiki page has been in need of citations for 8 years. As the one source provided on this page (which has been the only source since it's inception) is a broken link, this page defacto unsourced. I was unable to find anything meaningful about her through searching methods that could even come close to satisfying notability guidelines. There's also a list of books on the side of the page that she seems to not have written and I am not sure why they are there as they don't even seem science related? Of what I did find, she has an h-score of 5, which is quite terrible, and fails blatently at all WP:PROF guidelines, as well as WP:GNG.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. I suspect that might have been copied from The Empire Strikes Back, which was co-written by Leigh Brackett, but it's not clear that every aspect of the film is equally important.
