Request: American Football Barnstar

I'd like to request a barnstar for American football There's already barnstars for soccer, baseball, basketball, and hockey. Between college football, the NFL, the CFL, and the other minor leagues, there's a lot of articles and editors in this space. There are a lot of great contributors that I think deserve a barnstar for their contributions and I'd like the opportunity to give it out. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:40, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

Hey man im josh Hello, see Template:The American Football Barnstar. I didn't make them, just placed them in a barnstar template. Both were made by Bozky back in 2012. Judekkan (talk) 18:18, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
Oh that's cool and makes more sense than it having gone uncreated this entire time, thanks @Judekkan. Is there any reason I can't just add it to WP:TOPBARN? Just curious why it's been excluded up until now when all the other major sports have an award in that section. Hey man im josh (talk) 18:44, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
Hey man im josh I already added them to TOPBARN. I did see them a few years back and was going to add them but forgot, and Bozky doesn't edit the English Wikipedia. I'm not sure if the editor is even active anymore. Judekkan (talk) 18:53, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
Oh I must have missed that you added it. Thanks so much for finding it and adding it on there :) Hey man im josh (talk) 18:55, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

Too bland

Right now, barnstars feel way too bland. Most 2.0 stars are just the logo of whatever wikiproject is relevant to the star just slapped onto the center of the star, and probably some recoloration. That's boring. I feel like barnstars should be more creative. For an example of what I mean by this, look at the redirect barnstar. It used to be creative, having an image of a redirect on it. But now? It's the same as most other barnstars. I really feel like these should change. RteeeeKed💬📖 19:09, 10 July 2022 (UTC)

Gonna add on another thing I thought of: maybe make the title of the barnstar in the template relevant too. So instead of just having "The Glass Barnstar", maybe something like "The Transparent Barnstar of Glass"? RteeeeKed💬📖 21:01, 21 July 2022 (UTC)

Request: Systemic bias Barnstar

Awarded to an editor who helps reduce Wikipedia's systemic bias. (Overlaps a little with {{Goddess Barnstar}}, but that's only for women, not other forms of systemic bias.) Anyone want to design? {{u|Sdkb}}talk 19:08, 17 March 2022 (UTC)

Sdkb In progress... Jerm (talk) 06:57, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
Interested to see what you come up with. ––FormalDude talk 20:02, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
Hi i tried to design a systemic bias barnstar for the male gender Here it is:  (thats a first design i can improve it) Francyfabb (talk) 09:03, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
Hmm, I appreciate the effort, Francyfabb, but I'm not sure the intended symbolism really comes through. I'm looking for a Barnstar that can be used for more then just gender, as the goddess Barnstar already covers women. @Jerm: Any updates from your efforts? {{u|Sdkb}}talk 09:40, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
like using this symbol can be better?   Let me know Francyfabb (talk) 11:28, 7 June 2022 (UTC)
  • Sdkb & FormalDude, sorry I left without notice, I'm back now under a new account. I have a barnstar prepped but no symbol that would represent "Systemic bias", any suggestions? Judekkan (talk) 20:22, 6 July 2022 (UTC) (Jerm)
How about an = sign? It symbolizes equality, which I think helps with the main point of the barnstar. RteeeeKed💬📖 00:49, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
Sure, I think that's a possibility if you can come up with a creative design. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 02:07, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
Perhaps a scale? Those often symbolize justice and equality. ––FormalDude talk 02:10, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
A scale is already being used for another barnstar. Judekkan (talk) 14:57, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
  • @Sdkb: Here's something I made:   ––FormalDude talk 01:47, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
    Looks fine, FormalDude! {{u|Sdkb}}talk 17:40, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
Wouldn't an equals sign be the complete opposite of what systemic bias represents? Judekkan (talk) 17:50, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
Systemic bias is about discrimination, and this barnstar is about eliminating it. So, an equals sign would work here. RteeeeKed💬📖 17:53, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, I see no reason not to use this design. RteeeeKed💬📖 17:53, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
Created at Template:Systemic Bias Barnstar. Still needs to be added to the list. ––FormalDude talk 18:10, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
  Added. ––FormalDude talk 07:33, 3 August 2022 (UTC)

Awards needing update

Many of these awards need updates to use the new Wikipedia globe logo (Which is not even new) Urban Versis 32KB(talk / contribs) 00:39, 27 July 2022 (UTC)

@Urban Versis 32: Which awards specifically need updating? ––FormalDude talk 07:37, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
For instance, the The Outlaw Halo award needs updating and needs to be moved to SVG format. Urban Versis 32KB(talk / contribs) 16:08, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
svg/png are the desirable formats, one or the other, it doesn’t matter which. If someone is going to remaster an old award, don’t worry about getting it svg if you can’t, an award doesn’t need to be svg. Judekkan (talk) 18:32, 3 August 2022 (UTC)
I know, but on the award's image page on Commons, there was a tag saying it could be moved to SVG. Urban Versis 32KB(talk / contribs) 21:59, 3 August 2022 (UTC)

Request: Amateur Radio Barnstar

Hi, I would like to request a barnstar for WikiProject Amateur radio. The project is kind of dead and the articles are in need of some serious love. So I thought it might be nice to try and organize an article clean up drive next month and see if I can spur some interest and I thought making a barnstar as an award would be a nice way to recognize peoples work. I tried finding for vector images of morse code keys but I couldn't find any that weren't copyrighted. I'm really open to anything and if there's anything I can do to be helpful please let me know. Dr vulpes (💬📝) 22:49, 1 September 2022 (UTC)

  • @Dr vulpes: I found a free morse code key vector and made this. ––FormalDude (talk) 02:18, 14 September 2022 (UTC)
    Nice! Thank you so much. It's been ages since I've fooled around with GIMP. I'll add it to the project now. Dr vulpes (💬📝) 18:15, 14 September 2022 (UTC)

Request: tag barnstar (placeholder)

A barnstar for someone who adds tags to lots of articles (more citations needed, no inline citations etc) please. 2006toyotacorrola (talk) 16:37, 21 November 2022 (UTC)

2006toyotacorrola That is not an achievement, nor is it something to be proud of. Judekkan (talk) 19:33, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
Ok, but thanks for your help anyways 2006toyotacorrola (talk) 07:45, 23 November 2022 (UTC)

Request: Rapper Barnstar

If there could be a barnstar about U2, then there should be a barnstar for significant contributions to hip-hop-related articles. M@R10FYREFLOWER 21:54, 12 September 2022 (UTC)

@MarioFyreFlower: How's this? ––FormalDude (talk) 22:57, 12 September 2022 (UTC)
Not bad! M@R10FYREFLOWER 19:13, 13 September 2022 (UTC)
@MarioFyreFlower: {{Hh-barnstar}} already exists but I went ahead and made this as another option. ––FormalDude (talk) 06:54, 2 December 2022 (UTC)

Request: Native American Barnstar

Can we get a Native American barnstar for people who work on these culturally important articles? There are literally several hundred (if not thousands of) articles regarding the subject. I am quite surprised that one doesn't exist here yet. Regards, GenQuest "scribble" 21:55, 8 December 2022 (UTC)

@GenQuest: I made File:Native American Barnstar.svg, hopefully that can be used? Di (they-them) (talk) 22:23, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
Looks OK. Thanks. GenQuest "scribble" 22:27, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
Question: who makes the actual Barnstar then? Me, or someone in the BS project? GenQuest "scribble" 22:51, 8 December 2022 (UTC)

Proposal: Silat Barnstar

Image What to type Title and description
Barnstar 2.0 or alternate version
BintangWiki_Silat {{subst:Template:Silat Barnstar|1=message ~~~~}} Silat Barnstar

The Silat Barnstar may be awarded to editors who've made significant contributions to Silat-related articles.

Badak Jawa (talk) 13:19, 13 December 2022 (UTC)

Badak Jawa It's a nice barnstar, but the topic for which this barnstar covers is minor. WP:TBARN cover topics that are more common throughout society, or have a WikiPriject dedicated to a topic, whether it's specific or common. Judekkan (talk) 14:49, 13 December 2022 (UTC)

Request: Indigenous Peoples Barnstar

Can we get an Indigenous Peoples barnstar for people who work on these important articles? Same reasoning as above. Thanks in advance, GenQuest "scribble" 21:55, 8 December 2022 (UTC)

GenQuest There's too many specific-indigenous peoples in the world to have a single barnstar represent all of them. Judekkan (talk) 14:52, 13 December 2022 (UTC)

Proposal: Admins For Good Of Us All Barnstar

For those Admins who are hard when it's needed, yet nice people when it's not. I would make a picture for it, but I do not have one. However, I can make up a quick template:

{{subst:Template:AdminsForGoodBarnstar|1=message ~~~~"}}

Sorry if this is the incorrect format, this idea came to me rapidly and I was trying not to lose it. I like Astatine (Talk to me) 20:58, 11 January 2023 (UTC)

Proposal: Plants Barnstar

For those people who work hard on making Plant Articles, especially the onces who participate in WikiProject Plants.

Image What to type Title and description
Barnstar 2.0 or alternate version

{{subst:Template:Plant_Barnstar|1=message ~~~~}} Plant Barnstar

Plant Barnstar is given to the users who constantly contribute towards plant articles, especially those who contribute in WikiProject Plants.

Im sorry if this would be a bad idea. BloxyColaSweet (talk) 01:36, 15 January 2023 (UTC)

BloxyColaSweet There is already a barnstar dedicated to plants via Template:The Plantae Barnstar. It is located both @WP:TBARN and Wikipedia:WikiProject_Plants/Resources#Barnstar. Jerium (talk) 16:39, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
Ok thank you. I will happily delete this idea. BloxyColaSweet (talk) 18:27, 18 January 2023 (UTC)

Proposal: Karate Barnstar

Image What to type Title and description
Barnstar 2.0 or alternate version
  {{subst:Template:The Karate Barnstar|1=message ~~~~}} The Karate Barnstar

The Karate Barnstar may be awarded to editors who've made significant contributions to Karate-related articles.

The barnstar will be hosted at Wikipedia:WikiProject Karate. Mountaincirquetalk 15:09, 19 January 2023 (UTC)

Mountaincirque There is already Template:The Martial Arts Barnstar @WP:TBARN, but since your proposal is to be hosted there (WikiProject Karate) and not here, there is no need to ask here. Jerium (talk) 17:28, 19 January 2023 (UTC)

New barnstar design request: Scripting barnstar

I would like to request someone to create a new barnstar for outstanding user scripting. This is inspired by a wonderful new script that revolutionizes the ability to convert the numeric reference names generated by Visual Editor (like ":0") into meaningful names (like "Lastname-YYYY"). This is a game-changer for fixing such articles, and deserves a barnstar. I looked through the entire list of barnstars, and was very surprised that I couldn't find one aimed at someone who has designed an exceptionally useful new user script, or made major improvements to an existing one. Can someone help?

The tricky part, I guess (I'm not a graphic designer), is figuring out how to get the "scripting" idea into the design. I had a look at icons from this Google image search, I also tried this search at Commons, and the most common motif there, was this sort of scroll-paper idea, with the top and bottom rolled up a bit, like   or  ; or maybe a completely different approach, with something incorporating some lines of code, like a faded version of   ? My understanding is, that user scripts are limited to being writen in javascript, for which a commonly understood abbreviation is "js", but I don't know if that's a hard rule that will never change, so I'm unsure about using 'js' in the design; maybe someone could weigh in on that point. Any ideas for a new scripting barnstar? Mathglot (talk) 21:01, 13 February 2023 (UTC)

Mathglot I came up with Template:The Scripting Barnstar. Jerium (talk) 23:28, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
Jerium, thank you for this. I'm uncertain about the "</>" image. Here's a link to the actual javascript code in that script, just as a sample of the look-and-feel of Javascript (which I'm not familiar with). It doesn't seem to use angle brackets much, or at all, and I wonder if that inset image is a good one to bring "scripting" to mind? I'll try and find a WikiProject or other page where scripters hang out, and ping a few people who might know. What do you think? Mathglot (talk) 23:59, 13 February 2023 (UTC)
I like Template:The Scripting Barnstar. </> is immediately recognizable as HTML to anyone that does website programming. Up to you, of course, but I think that one is usable :) –Novem Linguae (talk) 15:41, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
Pinging regulars at WP:JAVASCRIPT: @Novem Linguae, Qwerfjkl, Fred Gandt, and Writ Keeper: for your opinions on what might be a good graphic element to add to this proposed barnstar. (The reason for the direct ping instead of leaving a feedback request at the page, is to hopefully keep from inviting User:N****g to his own surprise party  . Also invited Graphics Lab folks.) What kind of graphic do you think would be a good one to add to a star or star-like image, to get across the idea of scripting? If scripting really is just javascript, maybe a "JS" inside one of those curly paper scroll thingies? Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 01:26, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
Yeah the </> would be more appropriate to indicate markup. I've long considered if to be the most important word in high level coding (scripting), as almost everything we do will at some point require some flow control. Curly braces {} and semicolons ; are very codey. How about a good old foo; we code wranglers love us some foo. Fred Gandt · talk · contribs 02:08, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
What about this, then?

if (isFoo) {
   return bar;
}

Might be illegible in the context of a sub-image overlaying a star, but maybe illegibility doesn't matter: it's kind of like Lorem ipsum, it's not there to really be read, just to look right (sort of). Or would a graphic (non-text) element be better? Mathglot (talk) 02:32, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
Ooooh. User:N.....g. Skillz 😎 How about: {⭐}? Wiki scripting encompases templates, modules and JS predominantly. Braces are common to all three. Fred Gandt · talk · contribs 02:36, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
Fred, not a bad idea; still hoping for more feedback from Graphics or Scripting folks to see what other ideas there might be. If we go with your curly idea, how big would you make the curlies? A barnstar is pretty large (see examples at Wikipedia:Barnstars), would you blow the curlies up to full height of the star, or something less? Also, what about the star itself as far as colors, designs, even shapes? Mathglot (talk) 00:57, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
Definitely wait for other feedback 👍 Something like: {} ? Fred Gandt · talk · contribs 01:44, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
+1! Mathglot (talk) 01:52, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
Ex Google+ user? 😉 I was 🤷‍♀️ Fred Gandt · talk · contribs 01:54, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
Fred, can you add some brief and very faded js code behind the star, maybe "if Foo { dot dot dot newline something something" to see how that might look? Doesn't matter if it's large enough to be easily legible, and should be faded enough that it doesn't interfere with the image, but just dark enough you can make it out if you stare at it. Mathglot (talk) 01:56, 15 February 2023 (UTC)

This is a ternary conditional statement meaning if ( foo ) { return bar; } else { return baz; }. Any good? You know these aren't images right? Probably easier with GIMP or PS (I was just trying to save the upload)

{
foo ? bar : baz
}

  • I've updated the barnstar design. If you can't see it in the template, it should be rendering as this. Jerium (talk) 02:44, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
    File:Scripting Barnstar-2.jpg
    I like that better, with that little screen in the corner. I tried adding some different text into it with "Paint" and came up with File:Scripting Barnstar-2.jpg, which you can view in situ at Template:The Scripting Barnstar/sandbox. There are several problems with it: the background shouldn't be black; the new text overlays the old text because I didn't know how to take out the characters that were already there; and, it converted it to jpg format, don't know why. But it gives the basic idea. What do you think? Maybe someone could try that idea without the background or text overlay, to see how it would look. Mathglot (talk) 23:17, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
Mathglot What font did you use? Jerium (talk) 11:39, 21 February 2023 (UTC)
I believe that was Arial bold. I'm pretty shaky with "Paint", I'll have to go back and try to verify that. Will get back to you. Mathglot (talk) 18:59, 21 February 2023 (UTC)
Mathglot I uploaded a new version according how you wanted, had to "eye-ball" your design as best as I could. Jerium (talk) 19:58, 21 February 2023 (UTC)
Cool, thanks! Awarded, and now added to the list. Mathglot (talk) 07:24, 22 February 2023 (UTC)

Request: A Featured for the Angels Award

I had an idea for an award given to Wikipedia:Deceased Wikipedians who's contributions have been recognized after their passing for GA's/FA's/DYK's/whatever. A very simple award, but I'd like to think a needed one. I like Astatine (Talk to me) 21:11, 28 February 2023 (UTC)
