Notable updates edit

This came up twice during the creation of the previous newsletter and wound up making it into the final release: "Notable updates" is not a header. It's for notable and/or significant updates to pre-existing articles. See issue 2 for an example. Gordon P. Hemsley 05:39, 3 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I made it a header becuase I thought it looked better. Sorry if that's a problem. ++Lar: t/c 14:59, 4 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
It's not necessarily a problem, it's just not the use I intended it for. If you want to change it to a header, we'll vote. Just remember to change the template to reflect the outcome, if need be. Gordon P. Hemsley 21:06, 4 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
vote? eww... let's discuss and reach consensus instead. :) assuming it's a big deal that is... ++Lar: t/c 16:08, 5 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
That's what I meant. The same thing we always do. Nothing new. Gordon P. Hemsley 04:13, 6 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Reverted edit edit

Made me chuckle rather. Seems we may have a sore point there! --kingboyk 19:05, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Absence makes the heart grow fonder edit

I would normally be using the upcoming weekend to look around the Project logs and various places to stick in the latest recruits and contributions - but I'm off to London instead! I will try to get stuff done, but I am pretty busy at the mo. If I haven't done anything worthwhile before Lar sends it out don't bother sticking my name on the editors listing - and I certainly am not worthy of the "Lead" appelation anyway. I am confident that a solid newsletter will be produced without my input.LessHeard vanU 20:03, 22 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've taken up lead editor for this issue, if nobody minds. Gordon P. Hemsley 22:40, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Status edit

So... it's just about time to deliver, and the newsletter is looking fairly thin. Any more content? Do you all want me to deliver on Thursday 1 September regardless? Let me know. ++Lar: t/c 20:36, 29 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, news off the press today is that we lost the FA badge on The Beatles. I immediately nominated it for GA, and we got that later in the day. I'm quite happy about it really, as I feel that GA is about where we're at and gives some incentive to work on the article. Anyrode, this has to be a big story in the newsletter. With that and a few tweaks and additions it will be a decent enough newsletter. I'm totally whacked out with WPBio work (including my new AWB plugin) so if you could attend to it I'd be grateful.
Are we still reporting awards etc? We've both picked up some barnstars lately although I'd rather not mention them since they weren't related to this project. --kingboyk 20:42, 29 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'll see to the GA/FA bit. I'd say drop the barnstars bit, you and I get some every month now it seems (which is not meant to be bragging, it's just that we're well enough known and do things)... maybe mention members OTHER than us that get some. Maybe news of members being made admin might be something? ++Lar: t/c 20:49, 29 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Certainly, but have we had any promotions? --kingboyk 20:51, 29 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
This month? I dunno. The signpost has it conveniently noted by week so we could check. I'm suggesting it as a news item going forward though. ++Lar: t/c 20:59, 29 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I gave it a bit of an edit, give it a boo. Suggestions still welcome. ++Lar: t/c 04:16, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hmm. Is this the Beatles newsletter or the Steve newsletter? (Now there's an idea, would I get any subscribers??) Anyway, seriously, I'm not too comfortable about dominating the news so much. --kingboyk 08:35, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
I don't know... looks like a Steve newsletter to me.... Gordon P. Hemsley 10:28, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hehehe... that reminds me how tempted I was to slyly change the Project name to "WikiProject The Rutles" :) Too bad April 1st comes round but once a year huh? --kingboyk 10:31, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yeah... and always when you least expect it.... Gordon P. Hemsley 10:51, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wow, lots of great little changes. Good tightening on my wordiness, too. I like the nav thingie to let you scroll through issues. I was going through the changes in order and I have to confess I died laughing when I saw the "steve" bit. I know I put a fair bit of that stuff in, and am fine with whatever people want to do there. Go out tonite maybe if we think we're about done? I will check after work. ++Lar: t/c 10:52, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Alright, I think we're good. Fire away. Gordon P. Hemsley 22:55, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Issue Nav thingy... edit

I have to say that it looks like this Newsletter is just fine without my contributions (?). Is the Issue Navigator going to be (or has it been) retrospectively added to all the previous issues?LessHeard vanU 21:14, 1 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

That's the plan, I suppose, but it hasn't been done yet. Gordon P. Hemsley 23:11, 1 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Added to the issues or the archive of them or ? I probably will do delivery tomorrow. Get those last tweaks in! ++Lar: t/c 04:18, 2 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
The archives, of course. No need to go around editing everyone's old issues. Especially because the navigation is noinclude'd. Gordon P. Hemsley 04:37, 2 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Yes, deffo the archives. With the Nav option in the current Issue then going back into the archives is a doddle and I can remove old newsletters from my talkpage/archives without losing the ability to look up older stuff.
ps. I am going to absent myself completely from this newsletter - I will be contributing on the next one, tho.LessHeard vanU 19:58, 3 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I added the issue nav to the previous issues missing it. Whoever did it, good job, slick coding. ++Lar: t/c 06:25, 4 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, that'd be me. Thanks. I based it off {{archive-nav}}, which I also made. Not to brag or anything.... Gordon P. Hemsley 06:33, 4 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Delivery complete edit

Advise of any probs! ++Lar: t/c 06:25, 4 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

FYI, you didn't need to delete the stuff at the top. They're specifically designed to not be included when distribution occurs (especially if you uncomment everything first). Thanks again, though! Gordon P. Hemsley 06:32, 4 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
