What's going on???

Did anybody see THIS?

Last week or so I also noticed another image that was deleted without the Project being duly notified (I can't find the images-for-deletion page right now to identify which image it was).

Seems PR-related images are being proposed for deletion and the PR Project is not being notified.

However, this one is the straw to broke the camel's back: it seems to have been deleted after receiving NO comment at all - which could happen if the editor proposing the deletion fails to notify the Project in question - as it seems was the case here.

Do I have it wrong? Am I missing something here?

As I recall this was the image that had the pictures of "Notable Puerto Ricans: Lola Rodríguez · Ramón Rivero · Graciela Rivera Arturo Alfonso Schomburg · Luis Munoz Rivera Angel Rivero Mendez · Roberto Clemente · Alicia Bibiloni · Ricky Martin · Melina León Benicio del Toro · Lymari Nadal"

and whose names (now missing from the infobox) used to be listed under the now-deleted compilation image as shown HERE.

Can someone shed some light? Thanks.

  • You are right, something was wrong. The thing is that some of the images in the in the "group" were not free images {ex: Roberto Clemente}and therefore they deleted the whole thing since they couldn't delete individual images. They should have notified the community, but that is the way they work in "Commons". Pero..., I went to the article and made some fixes. Tony the Marine (talk) 05:33, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

2010 University of Puerto Rico strike article

I'm not much a collaborator, more of a reader, and as I stumbled by this article I noticed what a mess it was. Is there anyone who could help me out with improving this article? I mean should I just edit it and improve it as best that I can. I'm slightly familiar with wikipedia guidelines and with the way the article is written there are many things that could be improved (like syntax). Any suggestions? Madgirl 15 (talk) 10:34, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

  • I agree that someone familiar with the situation should get involved with cleaning up the article which has many issues. I am sure that many of our editors involved with this "project" will read this and lend a hand. Madgirl, go ahead and edit and improve the article the best that you can. A discussion of interest to this project

I have opened a discussion at Talk:List of Puerto Ricans in the United States Space Program that I think members of this project will be interested in. Please express your opinions. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:18, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

Deletion of various important PR project images

The photo of Pedro Albizu Campos has been nominated for deletion HERE.

Also I may be a bit late on this but the Govt of PR photos of Sila Calderon and Pedro Rosello I believe may have been deleted HERE, thought I remember reading at some point that there was an OTRS stating ALL the official governor portraits from the Govt of PR were released into the public domain given that "they were paid by public funds and thus the portraits belonged to the people of PR" (or somethng along those lines.

Maybe the PR project community should write a suggested/recommended procedure for the upload of images that complies with policies and also minimizes this sort of problems.

Mercy11 (talk) 02:31, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Perhaps Tony the Marine could contact his friend MacClintock and get a blanket statement regarding Govt of PR-owned portraits, such as I believe he provided of Senate of Puerto Rico portraits at one time. Pr4ever (talk) 09:22, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

  • I believe there is no logical reason for the nomination of the deletion of Albizu Campos image since the image of Pedro Albizu Campos when he was a student at Harvard around the years 1913-1919, prior to January 1, 1923, when the US copyright laws went into effect and therefore the image is of public domain in the United States. In regard to the governors images, I will see what I can do, but it will most likely be in a week or two, when I get one of my computers running again (I'm using a public computer right now). OK, so what is THIS guy doing? Mercy11 (talk) 06:39, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Looks like he's just updating things. The "Image" namespace was renamed the "File" namespace a few months ago (or more?). Guettarda (talk) 06:43, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
Oh, n/m, I see what you mean, he removed Image:Luis_Muñoz_Marín.gif‎. This was discussed on ANI recently. A fair use image needs to have a written rationale for each usage. Guettarda (talk) 06:46, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
    • Sorry for the delay. If the images of Sila Calderon and/or Pedro Rosello are official portraits, then they should be uploaded as free domain and this template: {{PD-PRGov-OfficialPortraits}} should be used. Tony the Marine (talk) 19:27, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

US Collaboration reactivated & Portal:United States starting next

Casliber recently posted a suggestion on the talk page for WikiProject United States about getting the US Wikipedians Collaboration page going again in an effort to build up articles for GA through FA class. See Wikipedia:U.S. Wikipedians' notice board/USCOTM. After several days of work from him the page is up and ready for action. A few candidates have already been added for you to vote on or you can submit one using the directions provided. If you are looking for inspiration here is a link to the most commonly viewed articles currently under the scope of Wikiproject United States. There are tons of good articles in the various US related projects as well so feel free to submit any article relating to US topics (not just those under the scope of WPUS). This noticeboard is intended for ‘’’All’’’ editors working on US subjects, not just those under WPUS.

The next item I intend to start updating is Portal:United States if anyone is interested in helping. Again this is not specific to WPUS and any help would be greatly appreciated to maximize visibility of US topics. The foundation has already been established its just a matter of updating the content with some new images, biographies and articles. Please let leave a comment on the Portals talk page or let me know if you have any questions or ideas. --Kumioko (talk) 19:24, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

Nominated for Deletion

The article Vanesa Littlecrow has been nominated for deletion. Hummm...Wasn't it Hitler who also said he was not particularly noteworthy?? Naah, maybe it was Shakespere. Whatever, that's a common statement amongst most of them. Regards, Mercy11 (talk) 03:29, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
