Father Christmas and Santa Claus

Okay my opinion here is that, as they both have different articles, but are the same people, they should be merged? Suggestions?  ←Kalajan→  17:20, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

oppose The current accepted british history describes a much younger gift giver origin in Father Christmas than in the histories of Joulupukki or St. Nicholas. it would not be inappropriate to mention details of father christmas in the santa claus article and visa versa, but a merge a bad move. Your opinion is wrong. Every country has its own origins. For example in the United States Santa Claus is loosely based on Saint Nicholas. They are different people, but sometimes their names are synonomous. Note: I'm not trying to be controlling, Its just that every country has their own take on the same myth. Theres many more pages like this, should Christkind be merged too? The obvious answer is no, Although they are virtually the same, they are different. --EveryDayJoe45 (talk) 21:57, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

Christmas light sculptures - your attention is requested

Greetings. :-) Someone from the visual arts WikiProject wants the article about Christmas light sculptures to be deleted. Since this has much more to do with Christmas (and other holidays and celebrations) than visual arts, I would like to ask each of you to look at the article and have some input on this before the discussion closes at the end of the day (UTC) on March 6^th. This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Christmas task force

Would the members of this project like to see the project banner adjusted to allow for separate assessments for the Christmas task force? As one of the leading editors over at Wikipedia:WikiProject Christianity, I would also like to know if you would want a link to the task force on the Christianity WikiProject's navigation template or not. it would seem more important that there be links from the holiday wikiproject. the christmas task force seems to be completely independent of this project to the point that i didn't even know about it until i saw this post. to only link from the christianity project creates an exclusively christianity interested task force. National Day

Remove Cyber Monday from Project Scope

Cyber Monday is a propaganda term created by the National Retail Federation to generate interest in retail sales by claiming that the Monday following Black Friday is the busiest day of online purchasing of the year.

As it stands currently, the page describing this term is listed as being a Holiday covered by the WikiProject Holidays team. I recommend that to maintain the integrity of the Project's goals that this page be removed from its inclusion.

I believe it is tagged by the project because it is included in both Template:Thanksgiving and Template:Christmas, and both of those subjects are clearly relevant to this project. While I appreciate your concerns for the project's "integrity", I have to say that (1) I can't see how placing the banner on a clearly relevant article damages that integrity, as the banner itself uses the more or less neutral phrasing that the article is "within the scope of"the project, and (2) whether you knew this or not, we try to determine the relevance of articles in an entirely NPOV way, as per WP:NPOV. In a sense, and I am speaking here as an admin who has worked extensively in project development, we really want to see every article tagged by at least one relevant project. By doing so, people who have questions or complaints about a given article, as well as any proposals for deletion, merger, or whatever, have a project with hopefully interested editors who will be likely to either directly know or be able to find answers to questions or ways to address other concerns. The term and subject is clearly notable enough for an article. We aren't taking any sort of position on the article other than indicating we are, as it were, a "contact group" for it. My counter argument was going to be, "Well if we categorize a marketing noun as part of a holiday, then Turkey_(bird) should also be included...and it already is.

Portal:Holidays - suggestion/question regarding how to select material for it

For this portal to be optimumly effective, I think it would make sense if it were set up in such a way as to highlight article related to specific important holidays on the days of those holidays. The portal could for all other days be set up, probably with redirects, to the content relating to the next holiday to be included in the rotation. If this were to be done, however, I think it would help a lot if we had a clear idea regarding which holidays were important enough to be included. A few that come to mind:

• Halloween
• Christmas
• Easter

But we haven't made one yet. Wikipedia:Books does not yet have a Christmas book. Add Location in Article Structure

The location of where the holiday is observed is generally a relevant and important detail of a holiday, as most festivals and holidays are location specific. I propose a section on location be added in the article structure and infobox. --Myaoon (talk) 11:10, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
