Probelm on Kali page, please help!

I don’t even know where to begin. Recently on the Kali article, the image Kali2.JPG has repeatedly been deleted from the page on the grounds that it “doesn’t do the goddess justice” or its “grotesque”. At first there was just one, a new user named Dipendra2007, who constantly deleted the photo without first discussing it or replacing it with a new one. I left them several messages on their talk page telling them that they needed to discuss changes like that before doing anything. But time and time again they kept on doing it. I respect that this person is a great devotee of Kali, as they’ve stated she is "a multi-faceted Goddess who is at once the nurturer and shatterer, the upholder of the family as well as one who stands outside all social norms", but therein lies the problem. I believe they are trying to whitewash the page of any material that they feel reflects a negative light on Kali. I keep on telling them that the page needs to be balanced and even opened up a discussion on the talk page in an effort to get some open dialogue going. I suggested that maybe some of the pictures could be switched around. There is one picture, Image:Kaligoddess.jpg, that is still wrathful, but toned down a bit. It is already in the article. I suggested this, but no one has ever read or at least responded to that part of the discussion.

Now all of a sudden there is a new users--MrinaliniB--who has started to delete the photo without discussing it. They too have given me very POV reasons why the picture should not be on the page. I have NEVER once said that I only wanted the current picture up. I’ve stated to all three people that the pictures could be switched around, but yet they keep on deleting it. These two new users just recently created their accounts within the last day or so. I’ve tried to explain that they do not own the article and anyone can edit it, but they don’t listen. They do what they wish. I’m not sure if Dipendra2007 has created a “puppet account” or if he is enlisting people to have the image removed. Either way, that is wrong if their sole purpose on Wikipedia is to get one single picture removed.

If you visit these two editors’ talk pages you will see that I’ve been trying to come to an amiable agreement that will make ALL editors happy. Yet they resist going through the proper channels of discussion and resolvement. They just want what they want, when they want it. They don’t care. I’ve even gone to the point of issuing an idle threat of possible vandalism charges (as you will see on their talk pages) in effort to halt the deletion of the photo, while forcing them to actually engage in some kind of discussion. But that hasn’t stopped them. I told them also that any discussions about the Kali page should take place on the Kali talk page, but they continue to discuss amongst themselves on their own talk pages. This does not leave an accurate record of what is going on on the Kali page.

I therefore come to this wikiproject, which I have been member of for a while, to ask for some sort of intervention here. Please help. Thank you. (Ghostexorcist 19:09, 23 February 2007 (UTC))

Ganges

Spam-Whitelist

Hi yall. Over at the spam whitelist we received a request for a page relating to Hinduism. I have a fairly good grasp of the larger issues involved, but in trying to evaluate the page I'm way out of my depth.

Sathya Sai Baba movement can somebody take over?

I will probably receive a topic ban from the arbcom. I was and am the only major contributor to the article. I am looking for a replacement. Infobox creation

Is anyone willing to help create an infobox for WP:HINDU? Of course several types of infoboxes may need to be created but I'm thinking specifically of religious leaders. There is allowance for this at Wikipedia:List_of_infoboxes/Society#Religious_leaders. A Hindu-oriented infobox needs to be created (we have no Popes!) so if anyone is willing to get on this please let me know. Ekantik ^talk 19:23, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

expansion

I've recently expanded the Kali (Demon) page. I only have one picture of an actor portraying this being. I would like it if other editors who had free images of him could add them to the page. Thanks. (Ghostexorcist 00:17, 8 March 2007 (UTC))

I found a very large detailed painting of King Parikshit raising his sword to kill a pleading Kali. It is very nice, but I highly doubt I could get the artist's permission to display the pic in the article. Therefore, I have just added the pic's link to the external links section. Check it out:

I found another picture of Kali and it was already on wikipedia! It was in the Sacred cow article. I found a couple of books that mentioned a pamphlet that was circulated by the cow protection league which showed Kali attempting to slaughter a cow with a sword. After I read that, I remembered the image there! The picture is called Image:Cowdivine.jpg. I recently added some passages from the book to further explain the contents of the image. Gujarati

Can someone on here read Gujarati? If so, which part of the following phrase is the name Kali?:

કલિયુગનાં ચાર આશ્રયસ્થાન

I got it from this website. As far as I know, the term says "Kaliyuga's mainstay". I would like to have the Gujarati version of his name on the Kali (Demon) page. I think the first four or five symbols from the left are it because They look somewhat similar to his name in Devanāgarī, but of course I can't read either one. I don't know Gujarati, but in Devanāgarī the name of the goddess is Kālī (काली) and in what you have written there, are both vowels long? They appear to be short. The name of the fourth age of the world uses short vowels (kali कलि) so perhaps you are copying from the source too literally. Buddhipriya 04:27, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Kundalini

I have been surfing around wikipedia on interesting subjects relating to spirituality and science, especialy about kundalini and scientific research. there are many promenent names to be found related to Kundalini research Gopi Krishna, George Tompkins, Dr.Karan Singh. There are many articles that have a relation to kundalini, but are now completely scattered around (on meditation, enlightment, alchemy, mystisism, chakras), with no categorised link to kundalini. Partly because the views of previously named persons are not know or just ignored. The aricles are also often loaded with proto-science and vage claims making the mist of the mystery only thicker instead of clearing it up by reading aout the subject. There are however extensive sources on the subject with scientific value and no mumbo jumbo (mostly related to the research of Pandit Gopi Krishna.)

• First of all, does anybody share my intrest, because I don't have the "courage" starting this project on my own.
• Does anybody share a similar view that this is not mumbo jumbo, but worth the effort.
• Can anyone offer be different sources on the matter.

I have chosen to post this here since I believe kundalini stands closest to hindu philosophy. If you find this a dumb idea please let me now to, so I don't get my hopes up to much. Teardrop onthefire 12:30, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Hello Teardrop, you may find this link interesting as an overview containing lots of 'pointers' elsewhere - that's if you havn't seen it before? Someone with more subject matter knowledge than me might want to have a look at the activities of user Rockysheedy. I ran into him because he apparently thinks that Genghis Khan was really a hindu guru in disguise. Vivekananda Rock - Kanyakumari Article

In the section Near-by attractions, in the Kanyakumari article the following sentences are found regarding Vivekananda Rock,

"The Vivekananda Memorial at Kanyakumari is also one of the important tourist spots and attracts many Hindus. According to local Christians, the place which is now called Vivekananda rock was once actually a small rock with a cross on it to inspire local Christian fishermen, the Paravas, while they were at sea. But according to the Hindus who built the Vivekananda Memorial, it is the place where Swami Vivekananda meditated for some time before attending the World Parliament of Religions at Chicago in 1893. Ironically there is no evidence of Swami Vivekananda visiting Kanyakumari. The religious significance has been a point of contention."

stating that 'there is no evidence that Vivekananda visited Kanyakumari' and also that, 'there once rested a Cross on the rock'. This claim according to 'local fisher men' , was raised-up as an almost-true statement and the Vivekananda visit is shooted-down completely. This claim was even not cited. It seems to me that some immediate attention needed here.

In think (but not sure) Vivekananda's biography itself mentions the Kanyakumari visit of Vivekananda. Also one more important thing; the very same rock has a very ancient Hindu legendry (of atleast several centuries back) that the foot print of Devi Kanyakumari is on the rock, and likely one such print is still maintained there. ==> _Д=|Ω|=_{Д Paul}^Ỹ 12:23, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Template

Why is {{WikiProject Hinduism}} banner made to create new banners for its subprojects above the main box?

{{WPBiography}} uses Work Groups for its subprojects and lists all subprojects WITHIN the main box, and only creates new boxes above the main banner for living person and active politician warnings.

{{WP India}} also places its subprojects within the main box, and even allows to set different importance for each subproject one article belongs to.

So, either are all Hinduism subprojects distinct enough for each of the to warrant completely separate templates or this template should use same system as WikiProject India and place its subproject within the main box. Shinhan 15:40, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

The Hinduism template works the same way as Biography and India templates, except it displays the taskforces as seperate boxes. This how the Hinduism project wanted it designed. The reasons for the single template for all, 1) all articles are categorized under Hinduism (root project) as well as the individual taskforce. 2) easier to maintain. {{WikiProjectBannerShell}} can not be implemented on it, because it would break up if any of subprojects are selected. {{WPSpace}} also covers several projects (not workgroups!) grouped under a root projects but displays everything within the main box. It also allows for separate Importance parameters for each subproject (but no separate class, their assessment is probably standardized over entire Space project). Shinhan 19:54, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

{{WP India}} creates seperate boxes for cinema, literature and protected areas taskforces, but WikiProjectBannerShell was implemented on it. You can see it working here Template talk:WP India/sandbox. The same can be done with Hinduism too. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 00:02, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Comment regarding Meenakshi Amman Temple

Hello, I have read this article:

I am quite surprise to find such an article on wikipedia, which generally i find very useful and well organized as well as scientifically neutral. I think that putting the banner:"The neutrality of this article or section is disputed." is not enough, being clear that writing: "The inner sanctum sanctorum is more than 3500 years old ... and the outer walls and the outer construction is about 1500-2000 years . Almost at the time when all other civilizations used to live in caves like animals and hunt for their food and wear animal skins . It is the greatness of the Tamil Race that they have the foresight and the ability to make this construction when humans across the world [ most of them did not know how to live ]" is simply unacceptable for many reasons. Firstly, it shows deep ignorance of universal history, being civilization started in different areas of the planet well before than 3500 years ago. Secondly, using terms like "to live in caves like animals" or "humans across the world most of them did not know how to live", reveals obtuse resentment toward other civilizations as well as ridiculous arrogance. If this is one of the results of WikiProject Hinduism, well, i suggest to work better being simply more open minded and scientifically correct. Doing this you will possibly pay due respect to your civilized ancestors.

Hello Michele - thank you for pointing out this innacuracy. Please feel free to edit any such statements which appear out of place on articles in Wikipedia.
