I'm starting off the talk page with a request for other editors to take a look at Hawaiian language. Someone added a lot of material from Ken Conklin's website purporting to prove that those "whining Hawaiian activisits" are wrong. I removed the worst of the POV language and put the material in its own section. But the section is still short of comments from the other side of the debate. Also, it may be that this is all a terrible distraction from discussion of the language, and should be moved to a breakout article. Please take a look and see what you think. • Re: all Hawai'i-related articles. 'Okina are not displaying properly. This needs to be corrected, otherwise Hawaiian place names and words cannot be read correctly. Utilizing diacritical marks is an excellent idea and linguistically correct; however, if they do not display correctly it is confusing for those unfamiliar with the correct usage of such markings in the Hawaiian language and how they guide proper pronounciation.
• Please add historical information to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawaii-Aleutian_Standard_Time_Zone, especially how to calculate corresponding times for events that happened in Pearl Harbor, Hawaiʻi, and Washington, DC, on Dec. 7, 1941.
• I've been meaning to update Hanauma Bay since I last returned in April 2005. However, I am waiting on film to be developed, and I'd like to do some research on which wildlife is present. There is also a species of wrass which is endemic only to Hanauma Bay. It would be good to mention that. Also, that the park is closed tuesdays, also that there is a discount ($9?) for Kamaʻāina. • There are beaches on the leeward coast of Oʻahu I would like to add content on. However, since the area is generally so poor, they are poorly marked and maintained. Perhaps a local could go out and have a look at the intersection of Maili and Farrington hwy, north of KoʻOlina, and figure out what that is. I've got a lot of pictures. It's also part of the (forgive me if I get the name wrong) Honolulu County Beautification Project. Which might, in itself, deserve an article. Avriette 10:29, Jun 11, 2005 (UTC)

It is not the case that the leeward coast is "generally so poor" that the beaches are poorly marked and maintained. Oʻahu is one city/county and funds are distributed pretty equitably. There may be some political reasons for more infrastructure spending in wealthier areas, but I think the reasons for what you note are really related mostly to vandalism. There is generally less respect for public property on the leeward coast than many other parts of the island. Just a fact and one that the majority of Waiʻanae residents are not happy about either. Anyway, I'd be happy to get you names for any places you have photos of or want to add to your articles. My work takes me all over the islands, and I have plenty of map resources in my office. Just send me the pictures or a description of the location. Māʻili is a place not a street, so the likely name for the beach you are describing is Māʻili Beach Park - Marshman 17:38, 2 August 2005 (UTC)

• Please have a look at the "Templates" section below. I have created two new templates summarizing the dispute over the history and consequent legal status of Hawaiʻi. So far I have not deployed either except in the article Bumpy Kanahele as a test; I thought I'd solicit comments first. True, there's a Wikipedia motto "Be bold", but the topic elicits strong reactions from some editors. Before altering either template, please note the tight restrictions on space and formatting and avoid doing anything that would produce an unbalanced graphic design. Mahalo! • While Wikipedia has somewhat decent coverage of Hawaii's history as a kingdom, republic, and territory, coverage of Hawaiian history since statehood is lacking. Perhaps no one is sure where to add it? I want to help contribute to Hawaii's post-statehood history, but I'm not an expert in that area (save perhaps the politics of the John A. Burns era). • The article on "Culture of Hawaii" is currently a stub, and I'd be interested in expanding it. I know quite a bit, but I don't have many sources and I'm not really confident enough to dive into it headfirst. I'd greatly appreciate at least someone who could read over my writing and check it for bias and professionalism.

• Need individual photos, preferably official headshots, of the Governors and Lieutenant Governors of Hawaiʻi and Mayors of Honolulu. See the WikiProject Hawaiʻi Almanac to link to those articles. • Need another image of the Kamehameha Statue in front of Aliʻiolani Hale. The one that was there previously got nuked by OrphanBot because apparently it had no source information. As a result, the Hawaii page has this black box in the Symbols section where the picture used to be. I can make a trip downtown with digicam in hand and take a pic if need be, but if someone has another copy of the original pic and can fill in the source info, it would save time.
