WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject
The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.
Portals are being redesigned.
The new design features are being applied to existing portals.
At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.
The discussion about this can be found here.
Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.
Background
On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.
Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.
So far, 84 editors have joined.

Moves from DK to KoD
A user has recently moved a lot of pages and categories from Denmark to Kingdom of Denmark, which seems unwarranted as its simply the long form of the name, and its constitutionally defined as a unitary state, so they aren't two different entities (in principle at least). These moves can seemingly not be reverted manually. I am not good with the technical sides of Wiki, how do you correct this mess? I saw your message on his talkpage, is it something you are going to act on? (if so, I will stay out of it).--Batmacumba (talk) 10:26, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

Religious freedom in Denmark and Christian persecution
There is a narrative in article Persecution of Christians, (permalink) that, IMHO, is very extraordinary . The narrative is that in Denmark there is persecution of Christians. That is in sharp contract to the well established opinion that Denmark is one of the safest places in Europe concerning religious freedom. According to Freedom of religion by country: Denmark has freedom of worship,[324] however the Church of Denmark does hold certain privileges. According to the Constitution of Denmark, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Denmark is the state church of Denmark and receives some subsidies from the government.[325] The constitution also mandates that the Danish monarch must be a member of the state church.[326]Anti-Muslim organizations such as Pegida have organized demonstrations in Denmark in the 21st century, at times met by counter-protests.[327] The right-wing populist Danish People's Party has at times self-described as an anti-Muslim party.[328]
There is no mention of persecution in another relevant article, Religion in Denmark. So I guess I should ask you fellow danish wikipedians (or wikipedians who are more familiar with danish issues) if you could shed some light concerning the specific subject.Cinadon36 (talk) 20:09, 6 January 2019 (UTC)

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool
Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. Etymology for the Danish Island of Zealand
Hi all,
I am new to Wikipedia but I wanted to discuss a potential clue that I found about the etymology of Zealand and the similarity to New Zealand. When I initially found the island of Zealand on a map, I assumed (as many do) that it had some relation to New Zealand. But the Wiki article here specifically stated that it was not related, so that was still a mystery for now: "Despite their identical names in English, the island is not connected historically to the Pacific nation of New Zealand, which is named after the Dutch province of Zeeland." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zealand
However, I have uncovered a few other pieces to the puzzle. Firstly, from reading a Middle English text I discovered that "Zelande" was a prior name of The Netherlands, before Holland. So, when the Dutch settlers named New Zealand, they were naming it directly after their own country! The article in question states that New Zealand was named after the Dutch province of Zeeland; however, I suspect that it was named after the whole country at the time and that Zeeland is just the last area to retain that name.
Secondly, looking into the history of adjacent Amager, I found that Amager was settled by the Dutch in the 1500s through a deal with the king. Specifically, the article stated: "In 1521, king Christian II of Denmark invited 184 Dutch farmers to settle on the island of Amager in exchange for supplying the Palace of Copenhagen with vegetables. The Dutch immigrants were exempt from Danish taxation and were given privileges such as being allowed to hunt most wild animals and having their own judicial system until 1823. Several names in the area and some surnames in Denmark give away the Dutch influences." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denmark%E2%80%93Netherlands_relations This article specifically mentions the Dutch influence on names in the region, and the two islands are close enough to be connected by bridge.
Finally, the Zealand article cites some controversy over the meaning and origin of the name. "The exact origin of the Danish name "Sjælland" is controversial. Sjæl in Danish today means "soul", but based on older records one can exclude this interpretation. Even a derivation derived from siô / sæ (meaning "sea") corresponding closely to the English name is today largely rejected – but it could be speculated that the English came up with their own separate name prior to the start of Danish research on the name's origin, and may have caused people thinking Sjælland means Zealand." Though it goes on to list a few of the strongest theories, I had to wonder why the author dismissed the connection to "New Zealand" out of hand and instead focused on the English subverting the name. To me, it seems quite likely that the similarity to the province "Zeeland," the island "New Zealand," and the former name of the Netherlands "Zelande" all point to a Dutch influence on the naming of Zealand, which would resolve the note of controversy surrounding it!
That said, this is where my research ended, because I don't know how to look further into Danish/Dutch etymology. Please let me know what you think and if anyone has further sources to confirm or deny this lead.

Denmark borders article out of date?

Active members??
I was looking at some of the profiles under active members, and I think the list needs to be cleaned out a bit. I'm thinking about moving members that has not been active on Wikipedia in 3 years, or maybe 1 year down to the "former member" list. Religion in Denmark
AS born in Denmark, everyone automatically is a member of the Danish church. But that doesn't mean that a person is religious. Under the quick facts, it is stated that 75,8 of the population is christians, and under "Demographics" -> Religion (6.3), it is stated that in 2020, 74,% of the population is christian.
The chart under religion (6.3) shows the number of the members of the Danish church. But that has little to do with who is religious. It's hard to drop the membership of the church, and you loose some benefits, like having trouble being burried by the church. That's why many people stay in the church. Furthermore, the 2 % you save in taxes, by not being a member, you just have to pay to the state instead. And many people choose to stay member of the church, as it keeps the maintenance of the many beautiful churches in Denmark. So the chart under "Religion (6.2) called "Members, Church of Denmark", is irrelevant, to describe the number of religious people in Denmark.
What we need, is a fresh poll, about religion in Denmark. The latest Danish survey I can find, is from 2017, and was made for DK's next largest news & TV network, TV2, and Politiken, a large Danish news site. https://nyheder.tv2.dk/samfund/2017-10-31-danskerne-dropper-religion-antallet-af-ikke-troende-i-staerk-vaekst This is also the survey, the Danish Wiki about "Danmark" links to.
It claims the following: "In 2001, the percentage of non believers, was 31 per cent. In 2017, the number is 48 per cent." But since the survey only mentions non-religious people, it's a bit hard to know the percentage of other religions in the country.
Another newer (2018), international survey, is by American PEW research Center. https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2018/12/05/how-do-european-countries-differ-in-religious-commitment/ But it only lists number of very religious people - "% of adults who are “highly religious”. It lists this number for Denmark, to be 2%.

User script to detect unreliable sources
I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (
John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.)
and turns it into something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14.
It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.
The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.

Nuna asiilasooq
I was just editing Nuna asiilasooq which says it is "used as an ethnic anthem by the self-governing Kalaallit of Greenland" and was "adopted as a national anthem, alongside "Nunarput, utoqqarsuanngoravit"." So is it exclusive to Kalaallit or is the song also used by all Greenlandic Inuit including the Tunumiit and Inughuit? The article is unclear. Thanks. Project-independent quality assessments
Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.
No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.
However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. Running from October 1 to 31, 2023, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.
