Name

Was looking at your contribs and noticed this. Looks like a good idea but there is a problem with many of the article titles and headings, etc. Just wanted to make you aware of WP's article and heading capitalization rules. The rule says that only the first word and proper nouns should be capitalized. Thus, no article should be titled Egyptian Religion but rather Egyptian religion, as religion is not a proper noun. This applies to ALL titles and headings. So you'll want to decap many of your headings and consider moving the project to Wikipedia:WikiProject Egyptian religion - the latter is not so important as it is in project space, but be sure to observe policy in article space... —Hanuman Das 13:23, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

tasks and short-term goals

Shouldn't the "short-term goals" be in the tasks section? Bibliomaniac15 00:55, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Category:Religious leaders

The current organization there is abit muddled, and needs some discussing how to deal with. A general proposal for cleaning it up is posted at Category talk:Religious leaders#Organization proposal, and more input would be great. It doesn't address the issue of Religious leaders/religious workers/religious figures, but that is another issue that exists. Badbilltucker 22:04, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Assessment

I have noted that this project does not yet engage in assessment. I am a member of WikiProject Religion, which does engage in assessments. I was wondering if this project would have any objections to the Religion project setting up its banner in a way similar to WikiProject Australia, WikiProject Military history, and others, which have the "parent" banner on top with the assessment criteria and a section below indicating which particular projects have specific interest in the article. I could set up the Religion banner in a way to accomplish this. However, given the complexity involved, I would not want to do so and have things changed back later. Please inform me if this arrangement would be to your satisfaction or not, so I can know how to proceed. Thank you. Badbilltucker 14:57, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

There is now a project banner at Template:AncientEgyptBanner available for inclusion on the talk pages of the various articles which this project works with.

Egypt Project

Also, there is now a peripherally-related new proposed proejct at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals#Egypt which has the intention to try to help with all the articles related to Egypt, past and present, and to provide assistance on those same articles. As the proposer of the project, I want to make it clear that it is envisioned as specifically only dealing with those articles which do not already fall within the scope of any other project, though. Anyone interested in taking part in such a project should indicate as much there. Badbilltucker 18:57, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia Day Awards

Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 18:18, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject Religion

The group indicated above was recently revitalized for, among other things, the purpose of working on those articles whose content is such that the article does not fall within the scope of any particular denomination. To most effectively do this, however, we would benefit greatly if there were at least one member from this Project working on those articles. On that basis, I would encourage and welcome any member of this Project willing to work on those articles to join the Religion WikiProject. Thank you. Badbilltucker 22:42, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

New project proposal

There is a new WikiProject task force proposal at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals#Inter-religious content that is being proposed to deal specifically with articles whose content relates to several religious traditions. Any editors interested in joining such a group would be more than welcome to indicate their interest there. John Carter 15:09, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

New Catagory: Egyptian Myths/Legends

There should be a Catagorie for this. I would make it but I don't know how to. Tutthoth-Ankhre (talk) 23:12, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

Do you mean something like Category:Egyptian mythology? John Carter (talk) 23:17, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

No. What I mean is a catgorie that's just has pages that are tellings of myths. Tutthoth-Ankhre (talk) 21:42, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

There would be no reason to create such a category without having at least probably 10 articles which are nothing but retelling of myths. I don't think we have such articles, because there is a question how "encyclopedic" those myths would be as stand-alone entities. In general practice, they can be included in the article on the main figure in the myth. John Carter (talk) 22:19, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Horus versus Seth

In the Horus arcticle, it has something called "The conflict of Horus and Seth". But only one event in the myth is described, and a lot is is missing. Like the reason Horus was fighting Seth (Seth killed his father, Osiris). Also, the bit where Horus is about to kill Seth but Isis, his mother and Seth's sister stops him. Oh, and after the only event in the section, Horus and Seth have a boat race. Horus makes his out of wood, and Seth makes is out of stone. Seth's boat sinks, so Horus becomes Pharaoh. So someone should fix this, as it is seriously lacking. I think it should be added to the to-do list. Tutthoth-Ankhre (talk) 21:45, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Part of that may be due to the fact that the information you're curious about may be included elsewhere, and we have a guideline that we don't duplicate information in multiple articles. Perhaps the information is included elsewhere, like the Osiris article. Also, we have a policy, WP:PLOT, which I think has been in general applied to myths as well, indicating that we do not retell any stories or myths in great detail. I would think the best place to place a note to determine in what circumstances such retellings would be permissable would be on the talk page of the WP:PLOT policy page. John Carter (talk) 22:19, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

No, what I meant (I fixed it) was that only a certain scene was described. It was like writing a summary for Harry Potter 1 with only "Harry gets a wand" Tutthoth-Ankhre (talk) 13:09, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

The Queen of Heaven article

The Queen of Heaven article, which is tagged as a "WikiProject Catholicism" article, has been having some POV issues lately.
As that appellation seems at least as applicable to Isis (among others) as it is to Mary, I wonder if anyone here might have any useful suggestions re. the recent controversy and/or suggestions for improving the article itself?
Please note my comment on the talk page, as well as this one made previously by someone else.
Thanks! —Wikiscient— 03:55, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Is there a project leader?

If there is no project leader, I, the Pharaoh, will be glad to take the post. Tutthoth-Ankhre (talk) 22:50, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Simple English Wikipedia

The editors of the simple English wikipedia have recently requested some assistance in developing their content. Right now, they could stand to have some content development related to the Egyptian religion and mythology. So far as I can see, they have pages on simple:Religion of Ancient Egypt, simple:Atenism, simple:Ennead, simple:Eye of Horus and about thirty articles in the simple:Category:Egyptian gods and goddesses. If anyone would be interested in working with the simple English wiki to develop some of this content, please feel free to contact either me, User:American Eagle or User:Eptalon. Thank you. Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Egyptian Religion

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks!

Thanks! Taty/Vizier

I notice today that many articles use the word Vizier instead of the Egyptian term Taty. I would like to suggest changing the references to the Egyptian term. This will involve many pages. I am willing to do this but I am not sure of the procedures for deleting pages which have been incorrectly named as a result of this usage etc. Unless of course you all have some reason for not making this change?

Morgan Leigh | Talk 06:06, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

  • As the vizier had no particular connection to religion, the general Ancient Egypt talk page would be a better place for this, but… "Vizier" is the much more commonly used term in literature on ancient Egypt (in fact, I don't remember seeing "taty" used anywhere). The desire to use an original Egyptian word has to be balanced against the inconvenience caused by using such an obscure term. A. Parrot (talk) 23:03, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 05:20, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

WP 1.0 bot announcement

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:15, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Request for comment on Biographies of living people

Hello Wikiproject! Currently there is a discussion which will decide whether wikipedia will delete 49,000 articles about a living person without references, here:

Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Biographies of living people

Since biographies of living people covers so many topics, many wikiproject topics will be effected.

The two opposing positions which have the most support is:

  1. supports the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, User:Jehochman
  2. opposes the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, except in limited circumstances, User:Collect

Comments are welcome. Keep in mind that by default, editor's comments are hidden. Simply press edit next to the section to add your comment.

Please keep in mind that at this point, it seems that editors support deleting unreferenced BLP articles if they are not sourced, so your project may want to source these articles as soon as possible. See the next, message, which may help.
