Wikipedia talk:United States Government Image Categorizing Week
Thank you for starting this event. I tried to do a bit of this, but I was not very successful. Please consider providing instructions for how to go about it. --DThomsen8 (talk) 14:42, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
Instructions edit
Go to the Category:United States government images. Then, pick a photo. Next, find out who took the photo, as some are pretty self-explanatory, while others aren't. There is still a massive gray area on who owns the Army Air Force images, so that will require further clarification. Within that category, there are many sub categories. If you are new to this, go here to find out what template goes where. Also, remember that some categories have sub categories. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Progress reports edit

- We can keep a daily tally on the shrinkage of the category. If you're talking about an individual user thing, I have no idea. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 21:36, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
- I really don't want to sound snarky, but there isn't a whole lot left for subcategorizing - I've already done most of it. When I started there were 17,000 in the category, and now 3500. The ones that are left are files that either have no subcategory as of yet, or no source or indication of which agency they are from, or are relatively new. Maybe a better focus would be to start moving the files over to the commons.--Monkeybait (talk) 01:26, 11 November 2009 (UTC)

- I have been able to find instances where I can reliably change the template, and from linked articles, also add additional categories. Monkeybait, if you have done all that work, our sincere thanks. We come along rather late to this category, but I suspect that fresh eyes can find more files where the template and added categories can be determined.
