I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this since it's not an objection, but the blurb has (and the article had, until I fixed it) a subject-verb agreement problem. - In British English it is perfectly acceptable to use the plural for collective entities such as sporting teams; in fact it is more or less the norm (further explanation can be found at Talk:Arsenal_F.C.#Use_of_the_singular.2Fplural). Given that the MoS recommends the use of British English in articles predominantly on British topics, then the Arsenal F.C. article should continue to use the plural. However, I'm not sure what the rules say about which dialect of English the summaries on the main page should use. Qwghlm 03:01, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
- Yes, once I saw it was that way in the rest of the article, I realized it wasn't accidental like using "they" in place of "him/her". Sorry about that. I personally like the British way better, now that I know it exists, but it appears that whereas plural is incorrect to Americans, singular is acceptable to Britons. Perhaps we should leave it be for the sake of not looking bad to some, or at least make the plural refer to "its players". Then again, that might sound as awkward as fixed-wing aircraft... :-P --Yelgrun 04:00, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

- For what it's worth, my personal preference would be to switch it back to British English, as to my UK-centric eyes it just looks weird now. But I accept that, as US English is probably more familiar to the international audience, it may have to stay as it is. Angmering 13:37, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
