Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/November 2, 2006

Might I suggest Countdown (game show), since this day will mark the 24th birthday of the programme. Soo 12:52, 1 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

this is kind of a boring article. i don't care about a high school in new york how is it the article of the day???

Woah, this article is very interesting and well written. While you may not care about Stuy, others do.

The article of the day really isn't chosen to showcase a subject of great importance to any group of people, or to the majority of readers, either. Instead, "Today's featured article" is here to showcase the best written articles in the Wikipedia community, whether they be about something as internationally imporant as Hydrogen, as regionally important as the Rugby World Cup, or as locally noteable as Stuyvesant High School, the fact these three articles are featured recently isn't because they are noteable or important to anyone, but because a lot of editors worked very hard to get them to look, sound, and present themselves as the best articles Wikipedia has to offer. We're then using TFA as a way to showcase what Wikipedia is all about, as well as encouraging editors to register and work on whatever subjects they might find interesting so that one day every article can be a featured article. What you should be looking for when you see these articles on the main page is the way they are written, sourced, and presented, not just what the article is about. That is all. -- SmthManly / ManlyTalk / ManlyContribs 01:18, 3 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
