The 1886 entry needs rewording as Benz didn't _receive_ the patent until november; he did _file_ it on January 29 though as one can see from DRP's patent No. 37435 (The dates are: Filed: January 29, 1886, Granted November 2, 1886 , thus taking effect January 29). • Thanks; I've fixed it.--Pharos 07:52, 29 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

VC edit

The Victoria Cross entry, 1856, reads "the Victoria Cross (pictured) was created, originally to recognise acts of valour by British and Commonwealth military personnel during the Crimean War". "Commonwealth" is wrong in that context, as the Commonwealth of Nations wasn't established until the 20th century. It should read British Empire instead. The Raven edit

"The Raven" was already in print when it was published in the Mirror for January 29, 1845. It was the first publication that included Poe's name but the poem was already published in the American Review, released a few days earlier. The article on "The Raven" says this, I think. If not, I'll fix it myself soon. --Midnightdreary (talk) 03:32, 30 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

You might also want to double check the third paragraph of American Review: A Whig Journal#History so it does not contradict; it currently says, "The American Review had the distinction of being the first authorized periodical to print "The Raven" in February of 1845 (it had previously appeared on January 29 of that year in the New York Evening Mirror.)" (emphasis added) Cheers. Zzyzx11 (talk) 16:47, 30 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

I have a suggested wording change for "The Raven" listing. It currently reads American poet Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven" appeared in the New York Evening Mirror, the first publication attributed to Poe. This wording implies it was Poe's first publication. A better version would be American poet Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven" appeared in the New York Evening Mirror, its first publication attributed to Poe. --Midnightdreary (talk) 15:58, 29 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
