Add reference during challenge resolution edit

Usually when resolving challenges I look for an authoritative reference to back up the decision, most recently with the date of death here. I added the reference's URL to the wikidata entry as a separate transaction. It'd be nice if the challenge UI had an optional place where I could enter the reference URL (and default to today's date) to make the update all in one transaction. I'm less keen on having a Stated In; I think it's good to encourage a reference outside Wikipedia itself. David Brooks (talk) 20:48, 4 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Persondata challenges are now available as distributed game edit

Hello everyone,

following the suggestion of Magnus Manske I set up an interface for bringing the Persondata challenges into the distributed game. You can find all 4 games (aliases, descriptions, dates and places) here. My aim is to make more users work on the migration. The old interface provides still more functionality and guiding so it is in my eyes the preferred page. It will still be linked in the edit summaries of KasparBot and should be the one we are pointing out in discussions.

Due to the minimalistic API of the distributed game some features aren't implement. You can't edit descriptions directly and quick references aren't provided. Please note that edits are processed using Widar infrastructure instead of Kaspar. I can't influence the Wikidata edit summaries (compare [1] and [2]). A plus is definitely the auto description box which you can use for having a look at other Wikipedia's articles related to the challenge and that the interface is much faster because it uses Javascript. Please help with testing the games. Decisions made with the games are marked with #distributed-game at the recent decisions.

Tell me what you would like to see improved.

Nice. But the "Aliases" game seems to suggest that the alias should replace the existing name, rather than be added to the list of aliases, no? David Brooks (talk) 17:13, 29 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Couple more things. Looing at Zorica Ðurković , it is still offering the diacritic-free version (I thought we decided not to tempt users to approve them). And I find the hyperlinked description (Zorica Ðurković is a Yugoslavia basketball player) makes me think that is a lnk I should click on (anyway, she can't play for a nonexistent country :-O ) David Brooks (talk) 17:39, 29 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, another request. Can you add a link to the Wikipedia article alongside the Wikidata link? I often need to consult it and have to go via the link at the bottom of the data. David Brooks (talk) 03:29, 31 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
@DavidBrooks: I changed the text and the label of the blue button in the interface for aliases. I will try to fix the bugs in the script which excludes diacritic-free versions. Regarding the other things you mentioned: I agree with you, but I can't change anything about them. These are the restrictions of The Distributed Game. Magnus Manske can probably help. Thank you for all the work on migration and template removal, I hope people click the links and join the game. Nemo 07:11, 10 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

New feature for references available edit

Hello everyone (@Izno, DavidBrooks, and MSGJ:),

I just activated a new feature which makes it possible to directly add references when deciding on places or dates. Based on external links in the related Wikipedia article the user gets suggestions. Please test the new feature and let me know how it goes.

@T.seppelt: Just about to leave for the weekend and can't check it out fully - is that just for the pre-game UI? I'm guessing it can't be done in the game version. David Brooks (talk) 16:13, 8 April 2016 (UTC)Reply
Yes David, this change only affects the standard UI, not the game. It's again a matter of the game API's limits. Have a nice weekend, – T.seppelt (talk) 17:14, 8 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Next steps edit

Hello everyone,

the removal is done! Since only one edit-protected article contains a persondata template I'd like to discuss what the next steps are. Will {{Persondata}} deleted? What is the procedure for deprecated templates? Please not that I didn't remove the template from user and talk pages.

Have a nice day, -- T.seppelt (talk) 08:47, 26 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
