  • Basics of editing. Go through the "Training For Students" tutorial here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Training/For_students During this training, you will make edits in a sandbox and learn the basic rules of Wikipedia.
  • Anatomy of Wikipedia articles, what makes a good article, how to distinguish between good and bad articles
  • Tips on finding the best articles to work on for class assignments
  • Handouts: Using Talk Pages handout


Milestone
  • All students have Wikipedia user accounts and are listed on the course page.

December 8: Choosing articles edit

In class
  • Select an article or articles that demonstrate gender, racial, heterosexual or Western bias to work on. You may choose an article from Wikipedia: WikiProject Countering systemic bias/open tasks or, you may choose an article on your own.
  • Get approval from Prof Dalton Hird for your Wiki editing project (NOTE: this is important!!!)
  • Compile a bibliography of relevant research and post it to the talk page of the article(s) you are working on. Begin reading the sources.

December 11: Contributing edit

In class
  • Wiki editing together!
  • Share experiences and discuss problems.
  • Discuss reflective essay (2-5 pages) on your Wikipedia contributions.
