This is actually one of the best analogies of a deletion discussion I've ever seen. Well done to who wrote it. Robofish (talk) 03:56, 24 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

I really like this essay- now that it's been pointed out to me, I'm probably going to cite it again- very good advice for AfD participation. I don't agree with the very last point, though- I think that in some deletion discussions, 'Delete the contents but redirect the title elsewhere' is a reasonable thing to say. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 21:19, 14 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
I think the essay is being used as a great excuse to shut down discussions at AfD. It provides some justification to avoid any type of debate/discussion on sources - which at NCORP AfDs is the single most critical part of the AfD. From a closer's point-of-view, it would then become a !vote count. So no, I don't really think this essay fits the bill for AfD - perhaps it is pretty great at other interaction pages but not AfD. really? edit

In my experience, something often present in discussions is, "he left, that means he's no longer interested." Sometimes even with words to that effect. OK, I understand, this is an essay, not policy, but if I ever want my accurate NPOV presentation of a point, to prevail, I know that persistence is expected, at least matching the persistence of the other guy's obviously POV stance. :) YamaPlos talk 23:08, 30 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Advice for AfD only? edit

Just wanting some clarification that this particular advice is for participation in an AfD, a regimented process on wikipedia, and not necessarily for regular discussions and other things. I have the same thoughts as the section above, engagement should match those engaging you, unless you actually are disengaging. In which case, say so. 66.207.202.66 (talk) 19:37, 27 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
