Wikipedia talk:2008 main page redesign proposal/Scottydude (2)

This variation of my original submission gets rid of the about section and reduces the search box into the header. I must admit that I prefer the about section because it is central to the idea of Wikipedia. Scottydude talk 23:28, 7 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

The Best

edit

I love the graphics put at the top of the page introducing us to Wikipedia, my only problem with it is that the 'Other Areas of Wikipedia', 'Wikipedia Languages', and 'Wikipedia's Sister Projects' are not in a table. Was there a particular reason for that, 'cause I think it would look much better with them in tables. ~ Bella Swan? 12:26, 8 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Honestly, I was just re-using what is already on the Main Page as far as the bottom goes. I do like the idea of some sort of tables though. I will look into it! Thanks. Scottydude talk 15:18, 8 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

About section

edit

This design has a lot of good points! Rather than get rid of the "about" section, would it be possible to just incorporate a slightly less long one? Like you said, the "about" section is important - but I wonder if it's better off being pithy, to the point, and linking to places where further details are given? Well I've made many mock-ups with many about sections. I've considered one with a much shorter about section. I think its do-able. Scottydude talk 16:05, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think this is looking good, a lot better than some of the candidates. I particularly like the header bar with the book graphic and the font style you've used. I would suggest making the header bar a little shorter, height-wise, as there's quite a lot of whitespace within it. And perhaps make the featured article section a little shorter, to pull the rest of the lower page up a bit. Looking good! Dicdoc (talk) 14:12, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
