Developmental Biology seeks to understand fundamental biological processes that form multicellular organisms with the following questions: How are cells functionally specialized? How do germ cells create a fertilized egg? How does this single-celled egg transition into an organism containing specialized cells, tissues, and organs? How does development contribute to understanding ecology, evolution, and medicine? What are the limitations to organismal regeneration and mechanisms behind aging?
