This is an upper level course covering the history of women, gender, and sexuality in the Middle East from the rise of Islam to the present day. Students will significantly expand Wikipedia pages or sections of pages on relevant topics chosen in consultation with me. This assignment is intended to help students understand the politics of knowledge creation surrounding the study of women and gender in Muslim societies, and to get them to recognize and identify the quality and reliability of different kinds of secondary sources for writing History. It will comprise a significant part of their total course grade.
