The railroad of New Orleans, Natalbany and Natchez Railway Company, hereinafter called the carrier, is a single-track standard-gauge steam railroad, located in the eastern part of Louisiana. The owned mileage extends northwesterly from Natalbany to Grangeville., a distance of 28.226 miles. The carrier also owns yard and side tracks totaling 7.662 miles. Its road thus embraces 36.778 miles of all tracks owned. In Appendix 1 will be found a general description of the property of the carrier.


Corporate history.—The carrier was incorporated on June 5, 1902, under the general laws of the State of Louisiana for a period of 99 years. The principal office designated by the charter is Natalbany, but the principal place of business is at Hammond, La. The carrier was incorporated in the interest of Natalbany Lumber Company, Limited, and is controlled by individuals who control that company. The purpose of the corporation was to construct, maintain, own, and operate during the existence of its charter, and to sell or lease in whole or in part a continuous line of railroad from or near Natalbany, in the parish of Tangipahoa, in a northerly and northwesterly direction through the parishes of Tangipahoa, Livingston, St. Helena, and East Feliciana, and also in and through such counties in the State of Mississippi as it might be needful to pass through in order that the railway might reach the Mississippi River; also to construct, maintain, own, and operate branch railroads from the main line in any and all directions. The detailed facts as to the development of the fixed physical property are given in Appendix 2.


DEVELOPMENT OF FIXED PHYSICAL PROPERTY

On December 6, 1902, that part of the railroad extending about 8 miles northwesterly from Natalbany was purchased from the Natalbany Lumber Company, Limited; it was extended by the carrier to Montpelier during 1903 and 1904; to Pine Grove in 1908; and to Grangeville in 1911, the latter extension being placed in operation on February 1, 1912. These extensions, and the purchased line, constitute the present road.
