Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/Peer review/Hamersley, Western Australia

I am working on a whole range of Perth suburb articles, and would like someone to have a look at this article so I can know if I'm heading in the right direction or not. I do not claim it to be finished, I think it needs *something* but am way too close to it to figure out what. Constructive criticism is welcome. • for the info boxes, maybe a location map? more specificly it might be more a matter of waiting fr locals to come up w/ stuff (he says, having grown up 5 mins drive away & barely recognising the name), & um, assume it's aec but the electoral stuffs unsourced. maybe something about the local council wards? name of current councilor? another extern. link map-source is [1] might be more relevant, dunno   bsnowball  18:09, 4 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I live in the suburb above and thought it was a great article and you've done well but it needed more detail. I have expanded the article somewhat (spent about an hour on it between making the dinner and got a book out from the Library), hope this will be of some use. Main suggestions (I hope you don't mind me saying "you" but with the edit history it's fairly clear it was):
    • Graphics!! Need a map of Hamersley in Perth, need a map of the suburb too if possible, I think you'd only need to mark major streets. I don't know how you'd get one that meets the tight copyright restrictions but I'm sure there are ways and there are ways.
    • Get rid of the roundabout photo. A shot of the community centre from midway through the park would be far more interesting.
    • Some stuff about East Hamersley. I'm not sure if you're a local, but there's a rabid East-West rivalry going on here and the East firmly believe we've ripped them off and hung them out to dry. The community precinct in Doon Way, which I have no information about, and a nice pic would be a good starting point unless you want claims of pro-West bias :)
    • Is it really necessary to have separate tables for East and West Hamersley for the politics? They're big tables and I'm not sure they convey more information than just the whole suburb. I didn't get rid of them because I think consensus, not my humble judgement should make that call.
    • The Aboriginal history. Is there one? Was there any historic link to Lake Carine? Your 1962 newspaper cite suggests there may have been. I don't know the answers to this, and I don't know how it would be found out.
    • You mention Town Planning Scheme No.26 - is a copy of this available?

Don't let my criticisms take away from the fact this was truly an excellent effort compared to some Wikipedia pages I read, and I know you want to make it even better. I hope my efforts contribute to this end. 220.235.146.172 12:50, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This article is almost ready for Featured Article status and only really needs images in order to go ahead. I heavily heavily snipped Early History as it was more related to the northern suburbs than to Hamersley. DanielT5 11:54, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
