Rockstar San Diego is an American video game developer known for the Red Dead, Midnight Club, and Smuggler's Run franchises. Founded by Diego Angel in January 1984 as Angel Studios, it was initially a work-for-hire animation studio, notably working on the film The Lawnmower Man and the music video for the song "Kiss That Frog" (both 1992). The company shifted towards video game development in the 1990s. In its early years in the sector, it was responsible for the Nintendo 64 port of Resident Evil 2 (1999) and cooperated with Nintendo on multiple projects. Angel Studios' work on Midtown Madness (1999) attracted the attention of Rockstar Games, which worked with the studio on the Midnight Club and Smuggler's Run series, both first released in 2000. Take-Two Interactive acquired Angel Studios for Rockstar Games in November 2002, renaming the studio Rockstar San Diego. Under Rockstar Games, the studio developed Red Dead Revolver (2004), further Midnight Club games, and Red Dead Redemption (2010). (Full article...)

  • Reasons for nomination: This is my first FA and first TFAR. I propose November 20, 2021, as the featured date because it is the 19th anniversary of the company's acquisition and rebranding, which itself occurred just under 19 years after the company was founded. Changed to nonspecific date nomination to avoid conflict with the Wii nominiation for November 19.

  • Support Oppose for now considering Wii is on requests right now. Keres🌑(talkctb) 18:49, 21 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    @Keresluna: I suppose the timing is unfortunate, even if both relate to video games in different ways. Should I change the nomination to a non-specific-date one? IceWelder [] 11:35, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    @IceWelder: I think that would be good considering that the date requested is right after the date requested for Wii. Keres🌑(talkctb) 15:34, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    @Keresluna: Done. Regards, IceWelder [] 15:40, 22 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
