Unused or barely-utilized template. As discussed at User talk:Vami IV#Thoughts on something the content is problematic. Of the two figures whose actions are compared to barnstar-worthy deeds, one is credited by history with coining "The only good Indian is a dead Indian" and the other helped found the KKK and committed the Fort Pillow Massacre. There are other alternatives, this isn't commonly used, and this isn't going to be helpful. Hog Farm Talk 18:48, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This template was copied from Commons to help reusers understand the copyright status of works from Iran, but it is now unnecessary. Iran works that are public domain by Iran law get the template {{PD-Iran}}, which now contains the language in this box. Iran works that are copyrighted by Iran law can get the new template {{Non-free no treaty}}.

(See earlier discussion for the Iraq template.) Wikiacc () 16:11, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Magog the Ogre, Felix QW, Stefan2, Fastily, and Whpq: tagging participants in the Iraq discussion. Wikiacc () 16:18, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep but fix. This is the same situation as the Iraq template. It needs to be made clear that it is not a copyright license but provides advisory information. -- Whpq (talk) 16:39, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Do you have a situation in mind in which (1) this template is useful, and (2) neither {{PD-Iran}} nor {{Non-free no treaty}} apply? (Or a situation in which those templates don't contain all the necessary information?) Wikiacc () 16:51, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I endorse Wikiacc's actions of making a new {{Non-free no treaty}} and merging the text into {{PD-Iran}}. Then non-free media files could use the equivalent text in the Non-free no treaty template, and PD files have the information there. Felix QW (talk) 17:19, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Delete - that's a good point. I'm more in thinking that we don't have really good guidance on sorting through licensing, but that's a bigger problem and outside the scope of this discussion. Keeping this template with the same information now incorporated in the other license templates may actualyl cause more confusion, so deletion makes sense. -- Whpq (talk) 13:49, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Keep - this is useful in distinguishing between the urban areas and metro areas of cities. For example, both Sydney and Wellington have urban populations of roughly 250,000 a piece, but metro populations considerably larger. There's no use in deleting this template. I'll see it's put to use. Aubernas (talk) 07:14, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Not actually used on the English Wikipedia. * Pppery * it has begun... 01:30, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, it is a necessary submodule for smaller Wikipedia that wishes to copy the Module:WikidataIB from English Wikipedia. Without it, the other Wikipedia's Modules won't work properly. I know this module is not really needed here, but please also think about other projects that depends on Modules from English Wikipedia. That is my rationale for this module being created here. Thank you. Bennylin (talk) 11:45, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
en.Wikipedia is not a repository of code used in other wikis. That is what Commons:Module:WikidataIB is for. Gonnym (talk) 13:01, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That said, it does look like the module is set to work with this sub-module in Module:WikidataIB#94 and extracting the strings to a sub-module to make the code cleaner isn't a bad design anyways. Gonnym (talk) 13:05, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The actual logic of the module is
if 'en' ~= mw.getContentLanguage():getCode() then
	require("Module:i18n").loadI18n("Module:WikidataIB/i18n", i18n)
end
. Hence, the /i18n page is never loaded on English projects, so it;s existence there serves no purpose other than to turn the English Wikipedia into a template repository. * Pppery * it has begun... 15:02, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Template from 2010 appears to only ever have been used once. * Pppery * it has begun... 01:04, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • This is a version of Template:Cfd main page banner for AfD. I made the mistake of creating it without providing any links to it. How about listing it in Template:Afd-notice/doc and giving more time to see if it then proves useful? It could also be documented as an optional step in the instructions that appear when using {{Afd}}.– Fayenatic London 14:11, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. The use case is unrealistic. If we're deleting a category with ten members are we really supposed to put this aggressive top tag on ten pages and then remove it afterwards? —Alalch E. 15:04, 12 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
