Navbox with no transclusions or incoming links from discussions. Created in June 2023. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:53, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep and add to articles. I made it but got sidetracked. I think it would be OK to connect these articles with a navbox. PrimeHunter (talk) 19:37, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion and clearer consensus.
Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, plicit 23:31, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The purpose of this redirect template, from my understanding, is not something we should be doing on Wikipedia. In all my years working with redirects, a title will be one of three things: 1) a page with content, 2) a disambiguation page, or 3) a redirect to one page. Using this templates makes it seem the title should hold either a disambiguation page or a redirect to only one page (and its target having a hatnote directing readers to any other pages, if necessary.) With that being said, there are currently only 2 transclusions of this template in the article space and 1 in the "Wikipedia:" space (the rest are either in the "User:" or "User talk:" spaces, which the transclusions in those spaces should probably be completely erased), and they both could be replaced with either disambiguation pages or redirects to one of its pages and a hatnote placed on the target page (and this should apply to Wikipedia and any of our sister projects.) Steel1943 (talk) 19:40, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed a word I mistyped, purpose unchanged. Steel1943 (talk) 20:35, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment this should be a disambiguation page, set index page, list page, index page, or somesuch, not a soft redirect. If it is to be a soft redirect to wiktionary, then perhaps a new type of disambiguation page needs to be declared instead of this weird double destination soft redirect -- 65.92.247.90 (talk) 04:44, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete; this does appear to be a weird substitute for a disambiguation page or a {{redirect}} hatnote on one of the target topics. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 14:58, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment according to the edit summary from creation in 2007, I infer that this is supposed to be documentation for MediaWiki:Blockedtext and MediaWiki:Autoblockedtext; both of which rely on {{Blocked text}}, whose paramters match the information content of this template. According to the 2007 creation edit, this is documentation that appears on the talk page, possibly because of how "MEEDIAWIKI" namespace works (ie. it's not TEMPLATE namespace). -- 65.92.247.90 (talk) 19:41, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Only links the three videogames, the software houses are filler. WP:NENAN --woodensuperman 13:03, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep (as creator). The software developer listed are deeply tied to the games. The respective games development sections cover this in great detail. They're worth listing on there, and the template is worth keeping. Sergecross73 msg me 13:22, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The template is only transcluded on three pages, the software developers are not and should not be, and for that reason should not be in the template. The same way we wouldn't put a studio on a TV or film series navbox, or a publishing house on a novel series navbox. --woodensuperman 13:48, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also, there is no article on the series, which is one of the criteria for a WP:NAVBOX. --woodensuperman 13:50, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What part of NAVBOX is requiring a series article? I'm not seeing that, nor have I ever heard of that... Sergecross73 msg me 13:57, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Item 4: There should be a Wikipedia article on the subject of the template. --woodensuperman 14:04, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
That does not say it's a requirement, it's just one of many criteria for guidance on making a good one. It meets all the rest, and there's no requirement to meet them all. Sergecross73 msg me 14:10, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's quote a major criteria though. In any case, we don't need a navbox to navigate between three articles. The articles are already well linked. --woodensuperman 14:13, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No, it's not. It's the fourth point out of five, on a guideline that goes out of its way to say "Good navboxes generally follow most or all of these guidelines". It follows most 4 out of 5. That's "most". There's very clearly a core, central concept connecting these six items. That is what matters. Sergecross73 msg me 14:15, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No, what matters is the correct use of a navbox, which is to provide navigation between existing articles. This provides navigation between three articles, and navigates away to three others which shouldn't even be there, and which are sufficiently linked in the relevant articles. WP:NENAN. --woodensuperman 14:34, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also bear in mind that the inclusion of these three software houses goes against nearly all of the criteria for WP:NAVBOX. --woodensuperman 14:40, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It navigates between articles just fine. Sega is too broad to have them template, but it could absolutely be added to the BlueSky Software and Pseudo Interactive, which both lived and died around the franchise. There's other things that could be added too. It had a well documented rivalry with Donkey Kong Country, has been included in a number of Sega themed compilations Sega Genesis Collection for example.) This is simply an WP:SURMOUNTABLE concern. Sergecross73 msg me 14:55, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Vectorman isn't even mentioned at Sega and only mentioned as one of a long list at BlueSky Software, so it would be WP:UNDUE to add this to the software house articles. So like I said, it only navigates between three articles. The other three articles are navbox filler that you are using to justify your creation of this. Is there an article on the rivalry between Vectorman and Donkey Kong County? No! If there was, then by all means include it, as that would be worthy of navbox inclusion. But WP:WTAF. Delete, delete, delete. --woodensuperman 15:03, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Are you even reading what I'm saying? I literally said not to put it in Sega's article. Both developer articles are woefully under-developed, but their deep ties to the series is well documented in the Vectorman articles themselves. Sergecross73 msg me 15:04, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. But I don't think you're reading what I'm writing. In my very first reply I pointed out that we wouldn't put a studio on a TV or film series navbox, or a publishing house on a novel series navbox, the same parallel should be drawn here with software houses. And I note you're not advocating adding such links to {{Sonic the Hedgehog}} or {{Super Mario}} for example. It's just filler. --woodensuperman 15:20, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've read what you said just fine, I just don't agree. My argument is that the developers are more closely tied to the subject than usual, and there are other things that could be added, making this a surmountable issue. No idea how a Sonic template has anything to do with this. What a bizarre WP:OSE tangent to bring up. Sergecross73 msg me 15:28, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per nomination. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 02:17, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep. Three articles on games and relevant links to developer? Makes perfect sense to have a navbox. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 08:05, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per the arguments made by Sergecross73. The nominator's arguments seem unreasonable to me. (Oinkers42) (talk) 06:51, 16 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep "Only links 3 games" still means there are 3 games worth linking. Wikipedia isn't paper, we aren't running out of pages for navboxes. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 13:43, 17 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Have a look at WP:NENAN. Navboxes with these few links are regularly deleted. --woodensuperman 11:04, 18 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak delete under a condition: If all the Vectorman games are listed under the "See also" sections of all Vectorman game articles, then the navbox would be unnecessary and can be safely deleted. User:Woodensuperman, would you like to work on this? My rationale: This is a rather defunct series from Sega, and there is little chance for a new Vectorman game getting developed. And the series is too minor to have a series article in Wikipedia, making the navbox without a main subject to link to. --Explorer09 (talk) 20:10, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This is an overproliferation of collegiate award navboxes. There is no article for the Ohio Valley Conference Baseball Player of the Year. The navbox links over 60 unique players and only six have articles. As I think Sweeney, Hulsizer, and Lipscomb are the only two on this navbox who are active, I don't see the potential for the others to become articles. – Muboshgu (talk) 00:41, 12 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
