this was being used in only one article, Orders of magnitude (angular velocity), where it was (1) crowding the table and (2) duplicating navigation found in {{Orders of magnitude}}. since it's now no longer being used, I suggest we just delete it (which will also reduce the need to keep the two templates in sync). The External Links Section in all Wikipedias (though specifically in the Hebrew one, where I mostly contribute) suffer from lack of standards: Most articles have no, or just a few, external links, while others contained a plethora of links, without any common order or phrasing, some even without any encyclopedic justification. Wikidata allows a systemic solution for these problems. Its database stores links to a large number of sites, some of them first-rate in their field, which can be pulled automatically and displayed in templates.
A use of templates to pull a single link was actually quite common. This allows a strict phrasing and also editing or removing links if there was a change in the site. In addition to these advantages, a multi-link template also allows to maintain agreed order and requires less maintenance - removing or adding a single template can require thousands of manual edits (or bot), while using a generic template will allow making the change in a single edit. The Template Talk page is a place to set policy for selecting links on each topic, and the template will actualize this policy.
The realization of the idea already exists in the Template:Authority control, which are placed at the bottom the articles, and also in some other Wikipedias: https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mod%C3%A8le:Bases_footballeur. This is the example from He Wikipedia where most links were added by single template https://he.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_Will_Rock_You. My aim is that Multiple-links templates are designed to replace most of the links under "External Links".
The number of relevant links varies greatly from field to field, but for about 20,000 articles I estimate that over 80,000 link were added, and this when Wikidata is still far from fulfilling its true potential.
