Malta edit

The Malta Portal

I've just completed the first round of development of the portal, any comments regarding the following points would be really appreciated.

  • Any comments regarding the picture section and the showcased articles.
  • Some feedback regarding the materiality of the articles showcased.
  • Ideas regarding further improvement of the portal.
  • Comments on the Topics Related to Malta template.

  1. The intro box's images are perhaps too big, making the box bloated - rearrange or reduce pix.
  2. Related Portals - can You make the images also link to portals.
  3. Reduce the gap between the right side and left side boxes.
  4. Move the "Selected Locality" to the left side, it will be then with the other selected (showcased) content.
  5. Make the boxes on the left bigger than in the right, the selected content usually needs more space, say 55% - 44%.
  6. Put the UNESCO World Heritage Sites box lower, below "Featured Picture".
  7. Change "Featured Picture" to "Showcase Picture" or "Selected Picture" as all the pictures used aren't WP:FPs, or are they?
  8. Remove the "Wikimedia Commons has media related to:" from categories box, it is in "Associated Wikimedia".
  9. "Malta topics" - the "See also: Portal" at the bottom is kinda strange? I suggest re-building it, and removing the red links.
  10. "Associated Wikimedia" Some links lead nowhere - edit to link properly.
  11. No need for the "European Union (EU) members" template - remove?
  12. Put a list of subpages used in the portal to the talk page.
Otherwise looks good. Hope the suggestions "help", feydey 10:52, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks a lot for your suggestions, they were all noted and the Portal was changed: however, i could not change the associated Wikimedia box, as suggested, since the box i used is a common template and "it is used for all portals and should be left generic" -- I will try to make a template specific for the portal, as suggested in the template, (if i can manage!) The problem is that 3 elements of the associated wikimedia do not have any article regarding Malta...i think that any future template will have to redirect the user to a Malta search page on the associated wikimedia other than to a specific Malta article. Any further suggestions would be great! - Reuv 09:04, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
See a modified box Portal:Literature/Associated Wikimedia for example. feydey 11:26, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Do not use Fair use pictures in Portal pages.
  2. "Malta News" - add the source for the news item(s).
The portal looks better now. feydey 11:40, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Is anyone still maintaining this portal? The News section has not been touched in last 4 months and the DYK section is showing a redink. Arman Aziz 04:31, 12 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
