For full disclosure, I had participated in the article's past FAC and peer review so I will keep this short as this space is probably better for editors who have not been involved with the article to get a new perspective. In the final paragraph of the "Conception and development" subsection, there are four citations in a row, which I would consider an example of citation overkill.
