Military history of Mexico edit

This, in my opinion, is a fairly good article, so I am making a request for it to become better. I really want to say that I have created a featured article, and I want to know what needs to happen to this article for that to happen. εγκυκλοπαίδεια* 23:52, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Good work! This article is certainly on its way, but first I'd fix a few things. The first one (and this is highly subjective) it reads more like a summary of "General History of Mexico" than exclusively focusing in "military" actions and strategy. Then there are a few important things missing:
  1. Where are the Aztecs and other Mesoamerican cultures? I have a strong feeling that things like the Flower wars must be mentioned, for instance. Cf. Military history of Canada, which mentions the First Nations as well. The fact that the Aztecs never managed to conquer the chichimecas in the north and west should appear there too.
  2. José María Morelos is considered one of the greatest Mexican strategists ever but he only gets a passing mention. His feud with Félix María Calleja, a Spanish General, was one of the higlights of the war. That should be mentioned too.
  3. During the "period of instability" you allude to at the beginning of the "The U.S. Invasion and the Reform War" section is characterised by guerrilla-type activities (if I remember correctly). This gave rise to the alternating "liberal" and "conservative" presidents. I'd look into that and expand as well.
  4. You probably need a section for the Cristero War itself.
  5. The World War II section must mention the Escuadrón 201 by name and briefly describe its activities and purpose (i.e. support of the Philipines due to historical links).
  6. For "Modern Activities" I'd mention the Zapatista uprising. It was the first time since WWII that Mexican troops entered battle (even if was only a few skirmishes in Chiapas).
  7. I'd also mention the recent controversy about sending peacekeeping troops on UN-sanctioned missions.

It's a lot to work on, but seeing how much you've been working on this article I'm sure you'll do a pretty good job. Good luck! -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ | Esperanza 22:10, 23 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the advice, I am taking to heart if you;ve been keeping up with the article. I have to say, I'd like some coöperation, this is too much work! εγκυκλοπαίδεια* 23:02, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, I'll see what I can add within the next few days. -- Rune Welsh | ταλκ | Esperanza 23:18, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • It would be nice to know when exactly the military was first used against drug dealers. I know that Mexico's army is deployed to do this because every now and again one of their raids in Juarez will make headlines here in El Paso. TomStar81 23:28, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know about this one. Please help me, this is a lot. εγκυκλοπαίδεια* 23:48, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
ON second thought, I think I got it, almost. εγκυκλοπαίδεια* 23:48, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
