We don't need an image of spam; showing what Mr. Coad's unremarkable spam looks like does not "significantly increase readers' understanding of the topic" and its omission would not be "detrimental to that understanding." The result of the debate was

no consensus, without prejudice to renomination for additional discussion. However, to be safe, I am restoring the non-free use rationale; the assumption that text is not copyrightable often does not apply and it has not been demonstrated to be an accurate assumption in this case (whether the text of the website is "non-creative" can be disputed). Also, sometime between 27 March and now, the eight non-free content criterion was modified and the part about omission being "detrimental to ... understanding" has been dropped. Non-free screenshot used to illustrate Example.com, which is a page that simply says "You have reached this web page by typing 'example.com', 'example.net', or 'example.org' into your web browser. These domain names are reserved for use in documentation and are not available for registration. See RFC 2606, Section 3." There is no need to have an image to show readers of the article what this text looks like; if they really want to see it, they can click the external links at the bottom of the article. I am not sure what is non-free about this. The first screenshot was non-free as it was Internet Explorer. The second are however of Mozilla Firefox, and the third of Epiphany, both the latter are free software. The text in the browser are just two plain non-creative text sentences. When I listed it, this image was tagged as a non-free Web screenshot. It's since been changed to GFDL, which seems to be based on the assumption that the text is not copyrightable. —Bkell (talk) 19:18, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This image has a number of problems (some of which may qualify for speedy-deletion but that's unclear so far. It is a pdf of text about the company Birlinn Limited. A google search of the first line of text returned an exact match on a copyrighted page. Given the subject and the contributor's chosen username, it is possible that the author intended to release copyright but I can't find any evidence that they've confirmed release. Regardless, as a pdf containing only text about the company, the image will never be used to illustrate any article. It is and always will remain an orphan. If the text had been added to the page about the company, it likely would have been reverted (or at least heavily edited) as a conflict of interest (as has much of the content added by this user to other pages).
