Lupton family (yet another) edit

This happens every time I add a file (almost) - It comes up way too big. Please be patient with me. This is the file in the "Hugh Lupton" section - https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Isabella_Lupton,_the_Lady_Mayoress_of_Leeds_(right)_with_HRH_Princess_Mary.jpg

The caption underneath should read- "Isabella Lupton, Lady Mayoress of Leeds (right) with HRH Princess Mary in 1926"

I really appreciate your help - I do try but get things wrong I know. sorry 175.32.11.165 (talk) 03:02, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Lupton editor, I am getting very old, and my memory is unreliable ... but I seem to remember that you have previously been pointed to a statement at the top of this page: "If you have comments about a specific article, use that article's talk page." Am I just imagining that this has happened?
Also, if you look at your user talk page (I mean, the talk page of you when you're logged in), you see increasingly annoyed comments by LX about your way of attaching fictitious copyright information to the files that you've uploaded. For this image of a Lupton, you've done exactly the same thing. It seems to me that the more you do, the more work you create for others. Am I mistaken?
"Please be patient with me" -- once or twice a day, for the next decade? -- Hoary (talk) 06:13, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Please Hoary - I promise to make no more edits for a long time - I am getting old too. I'm sorry if you are losing patience. Please shrink the photo the same size as the others on this page. I have tried over and over. I will not make any more requests. I'm too embarrassed and truly sorry. Last time. 175.32.11.165 (talk) 06:29, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I've made the changes to the picture, as requested. Maproom (talk) 07:11, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

First IPv6 edit edit

When did the first surviving edit by an IPv6 address occur on this wiki? Also, was there an earlier deleted edit by the same or different IPv6 address? GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 04:33, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@GeoffreyT2000: I think it may be Special:Contributions/0:0:0:0:0:0:0:1 or if that doesn't count, then Special:Contributions/2A02:2770:0:0:21A:4AFF:FEB4:8B00, which I found at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_IPv6_Readiness. RudolfRed (talk) 04:39, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

How to request another review for an article? edit

Hello! I would like to ask, after I improved an article, how do I request a change in the grade of the article? Thanks. A smart brainy man (talk) 08:18, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I would like to ask, can I directly use the Template:Weather box into my article? If I cannot, can I create a Weatherbox Template by myself?A smart brainy man (talk) 12:36, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@A smart brainy man: Hi, the guidance on assessing the quality of articles is at WP:ASSESS. You could ask a relevant project such as Wikipedia:WikiProject France, or you could assess it yourself using the criteria (up to class B).
And yes, you can use Template:Weather box, it says it is used on 18,000 pages such as Adelaide. TSventon (talk) 23:18, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@TSventon Do you know what is the code to change the rating of an article? Thanks! A smart brainy man (talk) 03:23, 16 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@A smart brainy man: you just edit the talk page of the article and replace the existing rating(s) with the new rating. e.g. replace stub with start (or C or B).
If you want to notify an editor you need to use code like {{re|TSventon}}: @TSventon does not generate a notification. TSventon (talk) 12:22, 16 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

How to know blocked IPs belonged to which account? edit

Recently, I edited in an article Heads of former ruling families, and there were some pretty controversial edits that I was involved; during the process, there were several IP edits from other user (here is the history). Eventually, the page is protected from IP editing for months for the "sockpuppetry", and the IP (I am not sure how many) was blocked for hours for "harassment" etc. In the talk page, it seems like one of the admins recognized that the IPs are "from an user that was active on this page", but is there a way to know, from these contributors history, to know which user that was blocked from this case, and it makes "block evasion" as the IP edits are present? - George6VI (talk) 11:54, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Other information was out of date edit

Please can the information for Alston Primary, Samuel Kings School and Nenthead Primary be updated to the following please:

Extended content

Our Federation comprises three schools: Alston Primary School; Nenthead Primary School; and Samuel King’s School. Each of our schools are very small so we work as one federation to maximise learning and extraordinary opportunities for all of our pupils. We see the size of our schools as a real advantage.

The AMF Alston site is a busy one with the Alston Pre School located in the building as well as Children’s Centre activities overseen by Barnardos. We believe that the presence of these two organisations really strengthens what we can offer to our families and the wider community.

As you browse our website, we hope to give you an insight into the life of our schools, our values and our ethos. Each of our schools offers you all that you would expect from small welcoming settings. We are proud of the ‘family feel’ that we have created in the three schools and believe that each is the perfect environment in which young people can flourish. Our motto of ‘What starts here changes the world’ encompasses what we aim to achieve for our pupils – we support pupils to learn and achieve so that they can use education to enable choices when leaving our schools or moving to the next phase of education. We want your child’s time at school to be a special time where they are supported through a curriculum and extraordinary opportunities that make learning fun.

We serve the close-knit communities of Alston Moor and the upper Weardale and Teesdale valleys. Links with parents, carers and families are very strong and our schools are at the heart of our communities.. Students and staff know each other well. Our children feel secure and gain the skills, qualifications and confidence that they need to enjoy their lives outside and beyond school.

Samuel Kings School

Co-located with Alston Primary School on the Church Road site in Alston, the School has strong community links and is very much a central part of life in the area. We have strong links to the local church and various other community groups on the Moor. Our active PTA organises any number of activities and events for the students – both in and out of school.

We have a three year Key Stage 3 curriculum and offer a range of GCSEs in Year 10 and Year 11.

Please post any requests for changes to articles on the article's talk page (e.g., Talk:Samuel King's School for that school), and provide a reliable source that can be cited for verification. Note that some of what you want to insert might not be considered encyclopedic – basically, we don't write anything about what an institution says about itself, so that we maintain a neutral point of view; we generally summarize what independent, reliable sources have written about the subject. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 14:19, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Donations are made to the Wikimedia Foundation, which develops the software and runs the hardware on which the various WMF projects (including this English Wikipedia) run. Your donation helps to keep the project online. Nobody knows whether you donate or not, and it does not affect your user account in any way. @Nik9hil: If you would like to request a Wikipedia project in a new language, follow the process at meta:Language proposal policy. If you want to contribute to the coverage of the Himachali language on English Wikipedia, you can just edit that article. Danski454 (talk) 19:24, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I created a proposal, but there is no information on Himachali on Wikidata. The proposal asks for Language Wikidata Item code, which is not present in the table. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nik9hil (talkcontribs) 20:46, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Nik9hil: Himachali languages redirects to Western Pahari, whose infobox says its ISO639-2 code is "him". The page is linked to the Wikidata item Q12645574. Not being familiar with those language(s), I don't know whether the languages are close enough, or whether that matters, to be supported by a single Wikipedia instance. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 21:41, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

How to find/update wikipedia for new concepts introduced by the British Brexit? edit

It looks like wikipedia is not up to date in regard of the end of the Brexit withdrawal transition period.

It is not easy to find where are described those concepts and how they work, for instance:

  • trade deals between the UK and third countries?
  • way customs will work between the UK and the EU? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.136.154.111 (talk) 19:04, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I would suggest asking at the Reference Desk. If they can't point you to what you need to find, they can tell you which article's talk page you might suggest improvement on. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 21:44, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
My impression as an interested UK citizen is that the reason Wikipedia does not contain these missing details is that the UK and EU politicians and civil servants involved in negotiating them have either not yet settled them or have not yet released those that they have settled. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.200.41.197 (talk) 18:34, 16 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Some area information not showing on page edit

On the Snyder's Lake, New York page ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snyder%27s_Lake,_New_York ) some of the items listed under "Area" Are not showing.

Specifically, the following is what is written in the coding:

|area_footnotes = |area_water_km2 = 0.0 |area_total_sq_mi = .9 |area_land_sq_mi = .7 |area_water_sq_mi = 0.2 |shore = 1.86 miles (2.99 km) |water_depth = 38

What is showing is:

Area

• Total	.9 sq mi (2 km2)
• Land	.7 sq mi (2 km2)
• Water	0.2 sq mi (0.0 km2)

I would also like to add that the lake itself (water size) is 124 acres

I'd appreciate if someone could tell me what I'm doing wrong.

— Preceding unsigned comment added by OuterChild (talkcontribs) 21:54, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@OuterChild:, Snyder's Lake, New York uses Template:Infobox settlement, which does not support a shore parameter, which Template:Infobox_body_of_water does. If you click on the links for the templates they have information on how to use the parameters.
Incidentally are you connected to Snyder's Lake? If so you should be following wikipedia's guidance on conflict of interest.
Finally, please sign your posts on talk pages with four tildes ~~~~. TSventon (talk) 23:56, 15 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@OuterChild: I.e., the article is about the hamlet of Snyder's Lake, not the body of water. Information about the shoreline could be added to the Geography section in prose (with a cite). —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 07:22, 16 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

First time edit removed by Paul August - Furies - Roger Zelazny edit

Dear Wikipedia,

I just tried editing a page for the first time and had my update immdediately removed by someone called Paul August.

I wanted to note the in the 'Modern References' section on the 'Furies' (Erinyes) page the short story 'The Furies' by Roger Zelazny in the anthology 'the doors of his face, the lamps of his mouth'. I even gave the ISBN number (0-7434-1329-6).

The reason given was that I had not given any citations and it was off topic.

I am not sure about the first one (tell me what I needed to do).

As to the second, it is most definitely is on topic if Mr. August had bothered to look at the story.

I feel that for my first edit, some advice would have been better that just straight removal.

Not that I want to edit much, but it doesn't exactly encourage one to try again.

Please can you indicate what I should have done.

Also, I had strange messages on my phone to say the updating from that IP address was blocked for some reason - very confusing.

Please could someone look into these and provide some answers - or I shall definitely sticking to readonly.

Thank you.

Convenience link: this is about recent edits to Erinyes.   Maproom (talk) 07:35, 16 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The source you used could have been included althiough this may be the book itself . There is a cite button in editing mode. Press this and you will find a number of templates which are reasonably easy to use. This creates a footnote. You could also include in your original edit the reason why it is relevant. Does the book retell the myth for example ?Spinney Hill (talk) 07:54, 16 July 2020 (UTC).[reply]

For information, Julianw138, 'The Furies' was not part of the original 1971 edition of The Doors of His Face, The Lamps of His Mouth, but was added in later editions. 'The Furies' was first collected in Four for Tomorrow (1967) following its original publication in the magazine Amazing Stories in the June 1965 issue. The latter is citable as a primary source (which is permissable for works of fiction, I believe), but Zelazny's writing has been the subject of several scholarly works of critical analysis, which will doubtless contain further citable material.
As for its relevance to the Erinyes article. It is thematically inspired by the legend, but does not actually involve or mention them} [edited to correct error – see below]. Rather, it describes a three-man team in the distant future – of whom one combines a prodigious memory with advanced IT (by 1965 standards), one has paranormal powers of psychometry, and one is an ethical but very expert killer – who on behalf of the authorities track down and execute egregious malefactors in an inexorable manner reminiscent of the ancient Greek entities. (I have just skim re-read it to confirm these details.)
I would only be inclined to add it to the Erinyes article if we had an article on the story to link to, but as yet we don't. Others may have different opinions.
As for your IP range block, I suspect that this is (a) coincidental and (b) nothing to do with yourself but rather fallout of measures taken against someone else with an IP in the same block; however, others have more expertise in this area. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.200.41.197 (talk) 19:18, 16 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I believe the RP is correct. The last paragraph of the story explicitly identifies the three characters as the Furies from mythical times. In lieu of scholarly articles to support this, citing the book will have to suffice, but a helpful clarifying note on the talk page will also help. [[1]] TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 19:50, 16 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You're quite correct (as I was able to confirm in seconds, as the book was still within arm's reach), and my skim-read was evidently too superficial: apologies for the error. Given this, I agree that the story could legitimately be mentioned in the appropriate section of the article. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.200.41.197 (talk) 22:12, 17 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
