Writing Laboratory component of the 2022-2023 course Lingua e cultura inglese III (seconda lingua) for students in the final year of the undergraduate degree in Mediazione linguistica interculturale at the Università di Bologna[1]. Students will analyze writing style, translation, citation and sources to edit, improve or create articles in Wikipedia (primarily in Italian and English).

1. Pilot Project edit

Project objectives: utilize and improve digital literacy competencies to identify, categorize and summarize information and digital data in line with the European Commission’s DigComp 2.2 framework[2].

Instructional objectives: identify and select appropriate sources; create summary of information using a neutral language register; correctly cite sources.

The work students complete incorporates a blend of digital skills and language competencies to include:

  • Digital content creation: Create and edit digital content to improve and integrate information into an existing body of knowledge while understanding how copyright and licenses are to be applied;
  • Communication and collaboration: To interact, communicate and collaborate, with individuals and groups, through digital technologies while being aware of cultural diversity;
  • Create digital text according the writing style guide that are easy to read but rigorously accurate;
  • Information and data literacy: Locate and retrieve digital (or paper-based) data, information and content. Judge the relevance of the source and its content.

  • 9 November 2022: understanding references and citations
  • 16 November 2022: writing style and content organization
  • 23 November 2022: peer review of another group's work
  • 30 November 2022: article to be published to target Wikipedia
