Original - Illustration for "The House that Jack Built", from The complete collection of pictures & songs by Randolph Caldecott, published 1887.

Reason: Randolph Caldecott was a British artist who exhibited at the Royal Academy and other galleries, but whose greatest influence was as a pioneering illustrator of children's literature. Since 1937 the Association for Library Service to Children has awarded the Caldecott Medal for the year's outstanding picture book. Restored version of File:Randolph Caldecott illustration.jpg.

They're not printing errors; they're chain lines that are part and parcel of the paper-manufacturing process (similar to watermarks). The closely spaced horizontal lines are called laid lines.
