I have compared this article to its equivalent 2000s list (currently a FL), and I hope that it is of a similar quality. I feel that this list meets the FL criteria, and I welcome any comments about how it could be improved. Thanks very much in advance!   • "... "She Loves You" by the Liverpudlian group The Beatles." > Couldn't you just say "... "She Loves You" by The Beatles."? Considering how popular they are I don't think identifying them as being from Liverpool is really needed.
  • "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" > Should this sort under "Satisfation" (i.e. the song's main title) rather than "I Can't Ge No" (i.e. a parenthetical extension to the main title)? Jimknut (talk) 18:36, 27 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • To a non-expert, you may need to explain that the OCC is a UK company?
  • Done.
  • "by post" may not be universal (e.g. think of the Americans!)
  • "Released in August 1963, "She Loves You" spent four..." don't repeat "She Loves You", perhaps either just "it" or "the single"?

  • Was Bilk kept off number one by one particular song or just a bunch of songs because his song was a slow-burner?

  • Was Blackburn the first Radio 1 DJ or the first BBC DJ full stop?
  • Specified that he was Radio 1's first DJ.
  • Not sure where ref 13 backs up the claim of more than half being by British acts, is it somewhere in the MP3? If so, note the time. However, it's now not available....! And probably never was to international audiences...
  • About a fifth of the way down the page it says: "In the era of the British invasion, it's a very British chart so multiple entries for The Beatles, The Stones, Cliff Richard, ... and Ken Dodd mean over half the records are by Brits."
  • Dodd's caption needs citation.

A few comments:
  • The first sentences would work better with a full stop instead of a semicolon. The sentences aren't really that connected.
  • Done.
  • I'm willing to change this, but I've been reading WP:OVERLINK to mean that major geographical locations (such as countries) need not be wikilinked to.
  • True, major geographical locations shouldn't normally be linked. However, links with contextual significance should certainly be included -- for example London should no doubt link to United Kingdom even if the latter is a major geographical location. If the context of the article is singles in the UK, I would (as a reader) expect a link somewhere to both single and United Kingdom. That's a very minor point, though, and I see that the 2000 list includes no such link. Jafeluv (talk) 22:48, 13 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Shouldn't it be "the Official Charts Company" instead of "The Official Charts Company"?[2]
  • Fixed.
  • Somehow I don't feel the detailed history belongs in the first paragraph. The first paragraph should start with a summary of the list and its important points, and details about how the charts were compiled should come later (either in the lead or as a separate section).
  • Not entirely sure that I agree with this. My understanding of WP:MOSBEGIN is that the opening paragraph of the article needs to establish context for the reader, which, to me, would mean explaining what singles actually are and how their sales were measured during the 1960s in the UK. That being said, if this is something that you think really needs to be altered, I'd be happy to do so.
  • I agree that it's good to establish context by explaining the definition of single and describing how the numbers were produced, but I still don't think detailed explanations about which magazine had higher readership or what sample sizes they had belongs in the first paragraph. A separate paragraph later on for the detailed history would IMHO work better and lead the reader faster to the important points. Jafeluv (talk) 23:22, 13 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes, I think it definitely works better that way. Is the fact that Tony Blackburn was the BBC Radio 1's first ever DJ important in the lead? To me that sentence looks kind of disconnected in there, but then again I probably don't know enough of the topic to be able to tell the important information from mere trivia.   • The second-most-represented act probably belongs before the most-represented female act.
  • Fixed.
  • Is that really the best photo of The Rolling Stones that we have? I think this or this would work better in the article.
  • Nice thought. Replaced with the first photo you suggested.
  • As Chris has mentioned below, it was released as an EP in the UK, which, at the time, qualified it for the UK Singles Chart. Slightly odd, I know, but that was how the list was compiled.
  • I don't think it's necessary to link London, BBC etc. several times in the references section.
  • Removed wikilinks to London and BBC.

  • "The BMRB compiled data from approximately 250 different record stores, which was hand-written and submitted by post." - Shouldn't "which" normally refer to the immediately preceding noun?   • Yeah, I used the lead from the "List of 1960s UK Singles Chart number ones" articles as a starting point for writing about the same subject in this list. I tried to put it into my own words wherever possible, but, just to err on the side of caution, I've added a {{Copied}} template to the talk page and a dummy edit to the article history.   • Is the artist column sorting by surname, if so Cliff Richard is not sorting correctly
  • I wasn't too sure about this. It seemed to me that "Cliff Richard & The Shadows" is the name of the group, and hence should be sorted under C, in the same way that Gerry & the Pacemakers is sorted under G. But if this goes against Wikipedia convention, I'll happily change it.
I see what you're saying, although the shadows were his backing group so I would be inclined to sort it under R because of this. NapHit (talk) 11:03, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Unfortunately the sales info was never revealed on the Radio 2 programme. I can find info for the top 17 best-selling songs, but nothing below that has been made public. Would it be worth including the sales info for those 17 singles anyway?
